Octane Level

Well I was just wondering whats the recommanded octane level for a 95 Honda Civic. Does anyone have a copy of the owner's manual that can scan it prove what the recommanded octane level is? Also what do you guys suggest I should put in my civic. I once put in premium but I usually just put regular. Does it make a difference because I don't remember if I felt a difference. Also does my car come with the ECU or whatever its called that tells what octane level you put in your car? Just interested in knowing this.

87 octane is plenty for your car... higher octane is for higher complression, or boosted cars... you can put higher octane fuel in it and it may help your power, but it's really not worth it... maybe if you know youwant to goof off at the track, run premium through it, but ifor daily driving 87 is plenty

I put regular unleaded in my CRX until the year it didn't pass a smog test. My Honda specialist conned me that it's because of the gas. So I put in Shell premium. I ended up having to replace my oxygen sensors and several other Honda people told me the gas was in no way connected. I got a new Honda specialist and went back to the cheaper gas.

too high of an octane rating can be bad also that is why it isn't smart to put racing fuel in catted cars

Be careful here. A lot of racing fuel contains tetraethyl lead ! That will destroy the platinum in the catalytic converter almost instantly. It will also mess up your sensors. Oh, how I miss that aroma of LEAD! ...memories of a bygone era.

Our Civic always ran just fine with 87 octane. We used it for everyday driving and never had any issues. With the way gas prices are now, I don't even consider the higher-octane fuels.
