You would get alot more for your money from a turbo. Go to www.evans-tuning.com, and go to the forum and then dyno charts. Look at there setups and ask them questions about how much they spent and whatever else you want to learn. Because for five and a half grand, you could do all your internals, buy a good turbo, all the other crap that you need and make like 350-450 whp instead of 300. The key with a turbo though is to get a turbo that is made for your cars powerband.

And they will both stress the engine, I still think the turbo will stress it more though depending what boost you run it at.

Yes a turbo will be faster, but a supercharger is nice as it wont stress the engine as much and will work just as well even if the engine doesnt put out big power like the civic.

Also with a turbo youd want to upgrade internals straight away but you could get away with not doing that if using a supercharger.

better than one of those stupid turbonator $70 "superchargers" anyway.. if it costs $5k surely its got to be of some quality?

Acctually superchargers put more stress on the rotating assembly/drive train as they make alot of lowwer end torque, thats especially hard on axles. They also sap power from the engine as you have to power the s/c off the pulleys to generate positive pressure, with that your taking power from the engine, similar to A/C and power steering. Turbochargers on the other hand use free power that would otherwise be put to waste (exhaust heat/pressure). You dont 'have' to upgrade internals with a turbo as compared to an s/c, 8psi is the same from a turbo as it is from a supercharger. Id honestly go turbo, but hey, im a turbo guy, i have one tattood on my leg for ****s sakes

superchargers use engine power, hence more stress on the engine components than a turbo which uses exhaust gases.

FIRST OF ALL EVERYONE, this is a very common mis conception about turbos.. it's not the psi that matters it's the cfm of flow.. my friend had a td04 turbo(fairly small stock turbo) on his wrx running 21 psi.. he then, upgraded to a larger vf30 turbo, and ran around 19 psi.and made more power.. hence, you can run the same psi or less on a larger turbo that flows more air, and get more boost... so people saying you can run 8psi on stock internals are full of crap.. because if i go get an 81 trim turbo and run 8 psi on my car, it will blow it all to hell... now if you say you can run a small turbo at 8psi on stock internals, i say you're right.. i say turbo because it is much more efficient, much better on gas etc etc. on a turbo set up, you can go easy on the throttle, and all that, and you will usually see an IMPROVEMENT on gas mileage.. plus, turbos dont have that annoying whine to them
