At this point, I must be an OLD FART!
I didn't realize that Honda has done away with traditional maintenance schedules and we must now rely on the "maintenance minder" (operated by the car's onboard computer).
Does anyone know at what point in time Honda did this?
Holy SMOKES!
I guess I really need to modernize my auto repair skill set! :-)

Re: "...we must now rely on the "maintenance minder..."

It's been in Honda's for at least 25 years. I place zero value in onboard computer data. The suggested oil change intervals are grossly overestimated and I don't find they accurately reflect my driving style. It's also manufacturers' way (it isn't exclusive to Honda) of accelerating a projected "shelf life" by deferring maintenance items more than they probably could be. A lot of it is emissions-related (more frequent oil changes means worse environmental impact at face value), but recycling cars at a higher rate certainly does a lot more damage.

A lot of it is me speculating but there's merit to what I'm saying.

By "grossly overestimated" are you saying that the onboard computer is telling Honda owners to change the oil TOO FREQUENTLY?
Are you saying that Honda is recommending too much or too little maintenance?
You made no mention of "planned obsolescence!" :-)

Not frequently enough. That's why so many cars burn oil. If I listened to the computer on my old TSX, I'd be doing oil changes every 15k miles. I was changing it every 5k miles at most and my valvetrain looked brand new at 200k miles when I was doing my valve adjustment.

My entire previous comment discusses planned obsolescence; I just go into detail.
