95 civic, what kind of coolant?
95 civic, what kind of coolant?
Hi! i just bought my first honda, or any import really. it's in really good shape but it's been neglected for years. the previous owner got the radiator changed because "the a/c didnt work" i look in there and it has lime green coolant. i hear hondas take "type ii blue" but ive also heard that pre-96 takes a different coolant, "emerald green" what coolant should i use? i tried to search it up but theres suprisingly little info. i assume i need to flush everything including the heater core? i probably need to do a timing belt and water pump but i'm afraid that might be over my head. if i dont have an upper timing cover does the head still have to come off?
Re: 95 civic, what kind of coolant?
Really, any coolant is going to work. I've been using Prestone for years. If you really want Honda coolant, go to a dealership and give them your car info. They'll tell you what coolant to get.
Head does not have to come off for a timing belt. Unless it's overheating and needs a head gasket.

the fluids that must be honda are: (unsure if same for older models, this applies to my 7th gen car)
Transmission (lower viscosity than usual, almost engine oil)
power steering?

And good, it's a relief to know i dont have to pull the head, but this whole timing belt thing seems like alot for a newb like me. i'm still debating if i should take it to the dealership, the local honda shop, the random guy on FB Marketplace advertising that he works on hondas, or just plain trying to tackle it myself.
