civic noob needing help ASAP
Hi I just bout a 99 civic hatchback with a d16y7 its a 5spd witg an aem cai and magna flow exhaust im not getting a weird idle but its getting like no acceleration and also check engine light is on (checking it tomorrow)? And my max speed is 105 km if I floor it it slows down? Whats wrong?? And is this motor a vtec? If not how can I make it a vtec? I want this car running mint asap...im changing the plugs, wires, cap&rotor, fuel filter and doing an oil change tomorrow. What should I run for oil ? could I need injectors? I put in complete fuel system cleaner im whem I filled it with premium and its helped a little for acceleration bit not much any help on all of this is greatly appreciated oh amd it came witg a short shifter not.installed should I install soon?

5w30 or 10w30 for oil chevron supreme or whatever is handy, "GF-4"/"SM" or newer is common sense recommended, though the engine is compatible with older oil specs (down to "GF-2"/"SJ"). It's not VTEC, don't bother with VTEC conversion, I've heard it reduces low end power a bit. At least with an automatic, the d16y7 is peppy.
Try again after changing the fuel filter. Check computer trouble codes.
Just use 87 gas, anything more is a waste, except if it pings like in hot weather. Doing a piston steam clean or seafoam or fuel injector cleaner helps with that so just use 87 gas.

wow you threw a lot out there with out a lot of details. Get codes checked, and then better explain the problem you are having..
as for the max speed, when you floor it there is a rev limiter that helps you not blow your motor and prevents extended over rev.
short shifter is really up to you, its not a race car(or is that what you want) so its not needed but some like it better.

Dont change stuff until you figure out whats wrong.
The reason I say this is if you change parts and it screws something up you wont know if its the original problem or not.
It sounds TPS related maybe? I dont know you need to read the codes and post here so we can help you.
