HX oil overfilled by 1/2 Qt-What to do?
My 2000 HX is supposed to have 3.5 Qts of oil(w/ filter)according to owners manual.About a month ago I had my local independent shop, servicing only Honda products, change my oil and filter just prior to an 800 mile trip, using synthetic oil.Car ran well on trip,no lights and gas mileage appx 48 MPG.I discovered on my return oil level was high, checked record and saw they added 4 Qts, not 3.5. I spoke w/ Shop Owner who said he didn't think that was a problem.Should I take in and have them drain and refill to proper level or not? Car has 167,000 miles on it and this shop has serviced for 10 years. They have a good reputation and have several times recommended not doing things they felt car did not need. Opinions? Thanks,Geezer

Relax. Nothing is going to happen. Just about all oil places will fill your car with 4qt even if your car takes 3.5.

i personally would never drive with oil above the dipstick max line. incompetence doesnt justify leaving it alone and eventually this will cause leaks and foaming of the oil, reducing its ability to protect engine parts. If you cant even get something as easy as filling the proper amount of fluid right, you shouldnt be in business.

Unfortunatly most oil change places know that the extra .5qt is negligible and doesnt really hinder the engine... Your engine had plenty of extra space or error (commercial engines like these are built to a greater range of acceptability in terms of oil capacity).
Now, if we are talking about a multi million dollar F1 engine (that is much more precise) then that's a different story.
Plus, MOST people almost never check their dip stick and that extra .5qt will even out till their next jiffy lube oil change.
