Check Engine light - 04 Civic?

It blinks when I turn the car on, not sure if its always done this or if its warning me of something. It doesnt blink for long and then turns off. It just seems (after installing my system) that I may be a bit paranoid and just never noticed it before, but I cant be too sure.

Anyway, when I turn the car on the check engine light blinks and blinks and then after a bit it turns off. Just to reiterate.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

When you ONLY turn the key to ON, but the engine is NOT started?

Or does it blink with the engine running?

Which? Be specific. It's important.

Is it the check engine light or the maintenance required light thats blinking. If its the maintenance required light then you just reset it.

Blinking CEL without running the engine means OBD readiness monitors have not ran. If the battery got disconnected, it will do this until the monitors have run and passed.

Re: Check Engine light - 04 Civic?

So its the Maintenance Required light and it blinks when you turn the car on, but not start it. Now if I continue through the key turning and start the engine it continues blinking and then shuts off. So, it does not stay on, nor is it solid, but it does seem to be on long enough for me to notice and worry.

that that comes on every 10000 km (I'm canadian) just means its reminding you that regular maintenance is due. just read the owners manual on how to reset it. nothing to worry about

Re: Check Engine light - 04 Civic?

it means your car is trying to tell you something and being that you couldn't differentiate between a check engine and a maintenance light im guessing its telling you it has been neglected and needs proper care. these cars are very emotional.
