I use 5w30 year round in NY weather and my car runs fine. Depending on where you live though, you may need a thicker or thinner viscosity. Where are you located?

5w30 is fine unless you have problems like leaks or burning. overseas civics almost all the engines use 10w30 recommended by honda (and usually the engines are the same or very similar).

That will answer all your oil questions. I have a feeling the book is supporting the Amsoil company. But i can be wrong.

amsoil is one of the best oils in the world. their oil has held 1st place in many 3rd party oil shoot outs and UOA reports.

5W30. I have been Honda tech for a long time and this is the best weight for most of North America......

Actually most civics overseas are recommended to run 0w20 currently, but that's almost impossible to get in North America and it's very expensive.
