100,000 mile maintenance

so i brought my 2003 civic lx into the dealership for the ignition interlock recall thing, and since i just went past 100,000 miles, they're telling me i need to change the plugs and have the valves adjusted. they want $299.

now, i can change the plugs myself. but do i really need to adjust the valves? the car runs like a top, even with the old plugs. do i really need to mess with perfection?

Get your recall fixed, change your spark plugs, dust off your hand

End of story.

Re: 100,000 mile maintenance

valve adjustment is pretty important... but its not a big issue until you start hearing a ticking sound in ur engine...thats when mostly u need it asap.

honda's valve adjustment @ 100k is more of a preventative maintenance in the long run. obviously it has some value in it or else honda wont suggest it.

i have 130k and my car still runs fine. maybe ill get it at 150. but remember, every car is different.

it will still run okay and loose valves wont cause engine damage, but you are losing out on some power and mpg.

Yep, that's the biggest reason for the procedure.

Well worth the money.

well, see that's just it. if all i'm losing is a few horsepower and 50 cents worth of gas, it doesn't make sense to spend $300. i'll wait until it's an issue.
