Re: Engine oil
if u want one of the best protection, id go with rotella T6.
the T6 has better protection @ 8000 miles with the mobil1 @ 3000.
go on BTOG and look at the rest results on a member's STI.
besides that fact, how many miles do u have, and do u know what kind of oil has been used.
to be realistic, there is no need to run super expensive oil like AMSOIL (very excellent oil) because in the end, you drive a CIVIC. the oils now a days are pretty close in performance and offer excellent protection. as long as you change ur oil regularly with a new filter your car will last hundreds of thousands of miles.
if u have a civic with higher than 75k miles, i would use VALVOLINE maxlife because its higher concentration of MOLY.
one last note, most the members on here dont know anything in regards to oil. they "know" only what has been told to them by a friend or word of mouth...even worst they just "speculate" and assume things about oil.
ask them what a GROUP III oil is or a PAO is and they wont know crap.

Re: Engine oil
There's no such thing as "best oil" this is a subjective matter. It's more important changing it on time vs what brand or type of oil to use. Even conventional oil change at 5,000 miles will get your engine to out last the rest of your car. Go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and see for yourself.
Re: Engine oil
Who cares, engines die long before oil related issues even come up. The cooling system is a weaker link than the oil system. As long as there is oil in there and it has not gone past it's life cycle you should be okay. I'm not saying use the cheapest oil you can find, because that's definitely not good. You should be okay with any reputable oil manufacturer. (I have a feeling I'm going to get flamed for this)
Just make sure you use the right viscosity for your vehicle.

Re: Engine oil
Yes correct, the oil is oil, only the viscosity matter, if you select a Oil of high viscosity then you mileage will drop down and the engine will be severely damaged and also you may have car starting problem as the pistons will be stuck due to the sticky oil
, consider these points in mind and buy the Oil for you engine

Mobil Clean 5000 7500 are conventional.

Re: Engine oil
If the car is taken care of with oil change and other things. I highly doubt there's oil built up (sludge) on the inside.

Re: Engine oil
most oils u buy on the shelf are not true synthetic oils.
here in the US, groupIII oils are allowed to be called "synthetic" even though they truly are not.

Re: Engine oil
my engine has over 90k miles and ive never used synthetic, just maxlife and LC20. engine is like new inside. the maxlife does have some synthetic component (25%, moly) but its basically conventional with some good additives. and i switched to 5w30 as the engine became older, it stopped leaking oil and the vtec works better. w20 is too thin once the motor is broken in. honda only recommends it for better gas mileage (maybe 1-2mpg), not that its better for the engine. in hot climates it can actually be worse.
Re: Engine oil
It doesn't matter what oil, find whatever is on sale. Any SAE rated oil will do just fine. Anything such as Pennzoil, quaker state, Valvoline etc. or even house brand such as Auto Zone, Super Tech etc will work too.

I don't agree that a w20 is worse in hot weather since it hold it's vis much better than a w30. I've seen many UOA that will inidate this.
