Seafoam:)

OK so i changed my oil (pennzoil 5w-20 platinum full syn) and trans fluid (gm synchro mesh). Car had a few problems the last couple of weeks with stumbling and idle misfires etc. Thought it was the plugs or maybe bad gas, i do have 88k miles on the car and mods listed in my sig. Picked up a can of sea foam (used before on past cars) and heres a vid of it.

http://s863.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-14-08-05.flv

after the sea foam, car runs like a champ... only bad thing was i had to clean a ton of black soot from my exhaust pipe, not bad though. Engine rev is super smooth

Re: Seafoam:)

yea seafoam is pretty great. i use it ever 30-50k

as for the missfiring, it is caused by ur EGR valve getting clogged and dirty. take apart ur EGR and spray it with carb cleaner and clean it.

but the seafoam did clean ur EGR when it went through though, thats why ur car prob stopped missfiring

Yeah i figured.. why not buy a 10 buck bottle of sea foam and run it through to see if it clears up anything instead of blowing my wallet on something more expensive.

Re: Seafoam:)

btw, u should SEAFOAM ur car 500miles BEFORE YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL.

pour i usually do it with 2 bottles. but only 1 bottle is needed (i just have OCD)

1/3 in ur vaccume line
1/3 in ur oil
1/3 in ur gas tank.

for others who are interested, here is the proper proceedures:

1. put seafoam in a cup so u can seee what ur sucking,
2. suck the seafoam in ur vaccume line SLOWLY. do NOT hit the gas to make this step go faster. try not to stall.
3. after all of the 1/3 amount of seafoam is gone, let it run for 30 sec and shut off the engine and LEAVE IT OFF for 10-15mins. do this to let the seafoam settle in and clean the insides of ur engine.
4. start up engine and DO NOT rev it to speed up the seafoam. let it idle for about 1 min and go for a drive

NOTE: turn off the circulation button on ur AC controls so seafoam air doesnt go in ur car and clog up ur air filter and smell ur car. (unless ur like me and love that smell)

5. do a few 10sec crusies @ 40mph
6. then do a few at WOT (wide open throttle) meaning u FLOOR ur car to push the seafoam + carbon out.
7. if u can, take it on the freeway and drive around for bout 10-20mins completly burn all ur seafoam out

try to do this in a safe place and be careful of cops.

Re: Seafoam:)

if egr is that clogged, it could be an indication of some other engine problem.

I would go with OEM Honda Tranny Fluid in the future. Why do some people say seafoam is bad for your car I know I read this somewhere?

He has a Jet chipped ecu, which makes the engine run extremely rich.. I had my LX ecu Jet chipped before I did my k-swap, and had to replace my egr several times cuz it kept getting clogged with carbon buildup.

yeah maybe when i change it again or still have the car. I like how Synchromesh feels, read up on it on the S2K and RX7Club forums so i figured id give it a try. People think that added the whole can to the car will make it somehow clean better, i just followed the instructions

On the JET ECU, its only running really rich high in the 4k -7k range. I have 90k miles on the engine and havent cleaned anything out yet. Originally thought i had fouled plugs but i replaced them at 40k miles (NGK OE Laser Cut Iridium)

because a lot of them are naive and just think because u pour an "unknown" liquid in ur vaccume/engine/tank means its must be bad for ur car.... those are the same type of people that think you pour 91 gas is better then 87 for any car because its "more expensive and its a higher number"

Re: Seafoam:)

What were the results after the seafoam was used? A slight fuel mileage and power increase?

Re: Seafoam:)

^yes, but results will vairy with every car
http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment/index.html
(look at the bottle, it lists the benefits)

but the main thing I felt was:

1. smoother idle
2. increase in gas mpg
3. smoother acceleration and RPMs throughout the band

Re: Seafoam:)

Sorry to have to ask such a noob question, but can anyone show me a pic of the exact vacuum line on a 97 Civic EX, that the seafoam needs to go into? I am not sure which line to suck it up with.
