Need timing belt replaced!!

I've managed to do the unthinkable...survive to 140,000 miles on my '00 Si without replacing the timing belt. I know, I know....bad deal. Ive decided Im going to get it done asap and need a bit of info.

Where should I buy the belt from?? Honda??

What's the cost on this bad boy?

and.....How much can I expect to pay on labor charges??

Re: Need timing belt replaced!!

about $25 for the honda belt. i would go with that over other brands. labor maybe $500 for changing it and you might as well do water pump too.

Re: Need timing belt replaced!!

7th gen is different and especially different then a 00 SI thats a dual cam motor,, a little more tricky getting the belt perfect. the 7th gen is a single cam and its kinda a pain in the *** to do because honda designed the alternator bracket directly in the way of the timing cover so you have to remove all sorts of extra **** before you can get to the cover.

Re: Need timing belt replaced!!

for 400$ you should be able to get:

timing belt
power steering belt
AC compressor belt
seals/gaskets
water pump
tensioner

as for belts, all belts are pretty much the same, there is only 2 big companies that make belts.

Gates (aka Gates Racing) makes over half the belts in the world.

Re: Need timing belt replaced!!

we had to take in the 92 accord for alot of problems mainly the oil leak and balancer shaft issues and for $750 they replaced all the engine seals, idler pulley, both timing belts, tensioner, water pump, and thermostat with new coolant which is not bad i guess. the shop is really good and we didnt want to take a chance with a cheaper shop that wanted 550 cause its real easy to mess up something.

If you live in North Carolina and want to drive to Fayetteville, I'll charge you $100 for the labor. You buy all the parts you need and hand me tools while I do the job.

Re: Need timing belt replaced!!

I've done two of them for that price already. Goes pretty quick once you get the crank pulley off.
