my brake fluid is kinda dark/grayish... i readed somewhere on the forum that it needs to be changed/flush... but a reliable mechanic i know says i dont need to change it, its fine because my car is pretty new(01 civic)... my other friend say its prob dark cuz its brake fluid also abs fluid together, is this true?... so im still unsure ... should i get my brake fluid change? and where is the abs fluid container?
i have not change my brake fluid ever since i bought it... its now @ 45k miles.
thanks

Rep Power: 296 If you bought the car new then yes have the brake fluid flushed.
If you bought it used, the previous owner might have flushed or bleed the brakes using a different colored brake fluid.

Rep Power: 375 I'd flush it, since you dont know. It should be changed about every 3 years, unless you track the car heavily or something.

Rep Power: 356 the car is five years old and you still have the original brake fluid?!!!??!!!?!?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have the system flushed. Seriously. See, brake fluid is whats called Hygroscopic. meaning it absorbs moisture from the air over time. the more moisture it absorbs the lower its boiling temp gets. makeing it much more likely for you to boil your brake fluid under any heavy braking. and thats bad. In reality, for normal daily diven cars, fluid should be flushed every 3 years and the lines them selves should be bled about every year and a half.
BTW, there is no such thing as ABS fluid... the ABS is system is just a part of the brakes that modulates brake psi to any given wheel to try to prevent that wheel from locking up.
I'd be like me saying to check your Blinker fluid, or your exaust bearing... (Things that dont exzist...)
