Post Removing The Center Console

<p><font face="Verdana">What you will need: Phillips Head Screwdriver, Flathead Screwdriver (or prying tool), cloth (to protect your console). </font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Well there have been a few people who have complained abou the removal of the center console. So here it is...a no nonsense guide to removing the darned thing without damaging it.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">You'll be able to do this in no time!</font></p><br /><br /><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%" border="0"><tbody><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="320" alt="Clips holding in the front of the center console" src="/diyimages/cconsole01.jpg" width="480" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">1.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Alright, let's just jump right into it. Get down and low and at the front of your center console you'll find two clips holding it in. There's one on the driver's side and one on the passenger side.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Okay so now how the *#$@ do I remove those clips? If you pull they don't come out...and if you pry you'll just scratch your console. Here's how: Look carefully and you'll see the center is a little circle. Gentley push it in...voila..off it pops. Repeat this for the other side.</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="320" alt="The rear of the center console with the screws removed" src="/diyimages/cconsole02.jpg" width="480" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">2.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Alright now it's time to head to the back. You should recline your seats all the way forward and slide them up front. This will give you plenty of room to work. Get down low and you'll see a screw holding the back in -- once again you'll find it on both sides.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Simply take your Phillips head screwdriver to the sucker and unscrew it on both sides.</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="Prying up the top of the center console" src="/diyimages/cconsole03.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">3.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Look carefully and you're going to see that the top of your center console is comprised of two pieces. It's only held down by a few clips so all you need to do is pry it up. Re: Removing The Center Console

Here is a video of this process to get a better idea of how to do this. ( I take no credit for the making of the video nor the tutorial in anyway I just came across the video and it helped me so much that I figured it could help out a lot of other people as well)

This is the link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME8Uu...feature=fvwrel

Re: Removing The Center Console

I didn't mean to double post. But is this process different with an automatic honda? I'm only asking this because I have to do this to my car and mine is an automatic..... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Removing The Center Console

I am having trouble with removing the shift boot console area piece. I can remove the e-brake piece by lifting from the sliding compartment. However, it's like impossible to remove that piece in front of the e-brake. I've tried pulling it and sliding a flat head screwdriver. I can't even take out the whole center console because of the armrest if that is what it takes to remove just that one shift boot piece.

Re: Removing The Center Console

recline the driver seat back completely to give clearance to remove the console. unscrew the shift **** first.

Re: Removing The Center Console

Thanks ghosty and gearbox for helping me out with this DIY. I took the shift boot and put it over the e-brake just to see how it would look. In the meantime, I am looking for a shift boot to match the new shift ****.

Re: Removing The Center Console

hey, thanks for this DIY. I think I am going to try this soon. since I painted my shift **** numbers blue, i want to paint the ring around the ****, and also the ring around the boot blue as well. i think the only way to do this is by taking it apart like this. i took the **** off the other day, and noticed a little zip tie holding the boot onto the smaller ring at the top. (on the inside). would the best way to paint this part be to completely tape up the boot and console area? leaving only the gold ring and the top ring visible? i dont know if you remove that ring thats secured, if it can be put back on.. ? if anyone knows, or has done this, i'd appreciate any advice thanx

Re: Removing The Center Console

Just take it all apart. It'll be easier in the long run, and most likely end up looking better

Re: Removing The Center Console

Another word of advice, I just noticed the paint my shift boot connector ring is a bit worn out from contact, so you may wanna add a few coats of clear on top of the color coats, at least on that piece. And I'd also keep from getting paint on the inside of the ring, so it still engages the shift **** with no more resistance that it already has. You don't want to have paint on the inside effectively gluing your shift boot to your **** after a while from constant pressure/contact

Re: Removing The Center Console

thanks for the tip.. what kinda clear coat would you recommend? i have been using the auto spray paint from dupli-color i think its called, and they have a clear coat enamel can too.. so might check that out. i think im just gonna take it all apart, like ^ up there, and tape every single bit up except for the outside part of the little ring and of course the bigger ring around the boot. that way im not takin the boot off or anything.. ill just wrap it up really good with tape. i was gonna do it today, but the weather was back and fourth and i didnt know if it was gonna rain or not. hopefully tomorrow
