I've looked at it... I just couldn't see justifying it in a non competitive situation. It totally depends on the track I guess, if you're someplace where a wall is possible, then yeah, its probably not a bad idea, but then again, you gotta wear it with a harness, and you're not really supposed to have a harness on without a cage in, so that kinda does away with it.

Not having a cage does put a damper on things, but even still, they say its great protection even in low speed impacts.
Decisions Decisions Decisoins... I feel like a dog stuck between a tree and a Fire hydrant... Do I spend more $$ on this civic, or do I save for a dedicated track car... or do I make the civic my track car and get something else thats more Family friendly.... ect ect ect....

My advice... buy someone's race car. You can pick up a ready to run 240 or Civic hatchback for less than 10,000 (sometimes far less) with all the stuff you need and then some. Thats probably the most economic way, and if you pick the right car, its already ready to run in IT, HC or something of the sort with nothing for you to do to it.

Me and the guys at my shop are building a race car we'll be campaigning next year. Its a 1996 Impreza L 2.2L NA full cage. All we need to do is a manual swap, and finish up some things and shake it down. I'm probably getting my EMRA Comp licence this year or early next year, ought to be fun.
On the HANS device, i really don't think i'll be goin fast enough to worry about a basilar skull fracture, so i really don't see the need spending that much money on it.
here's the car, its 1 color now....primer...for now

^^ the crash that killed Dale Ernheart only had impact speeds of about 60 MPH, and they say a Hans device would have saved him... Not to mention most if not all race scantioning bodys require such a device now any way.
