I thought I would put this here since you guys seem to know your stuff. What is the ideal cat-back for a 97 DX in STX. I'm talking weight, ground clearance (will eventually be on coilovers), low-end torque as opposed to hp, etc. Thanks.

hmm anything aluminum would be lighter but wouldn't last as long as stainless steel. I don't know much about the different cat backs for older civics. Why would you be in STX?? All civics run in STS if they are in street touring.

Rep Power: 380 Well, since weight is more important then power... I'd go for the lightest one you can find. wich one that is... Probably the one your local mufler shop can toss together.

What about those tanabe hyper racing medallion?? they were supposed to be some of the lightest exhausts around i think

The stock exhaust diameter is actually really good for low end torque, not that our cars have any anyways. But If I were you I wouldnt worry about low end torque but worry more about high end horsepower since that is where our cars really excel.

Rep Power: 0 Would it be possible to have a muffler shop make the stock size, or a little bigger piping, out of stainless steel and a little more "straight through" design? Or would that cost too much time and money?

Rep Power: 412 A muffler shop can make you an exhaust. Get a nice straight, free flowing muffler (like a 5 zigen fireball or something similar) and have them bend pipe for you. Ask for MANDREL bends, NOT CRUSHED bends. It will probably be cheaper than buying an exhaust. I would stick to 2.25" piping. The only thing is that it won't be researched/designed and tested like companies do for their products.

Rep Power: 0 The sound maybe a little raspy or something. I mean it wont be a tuned exhaust you but from a performance store. You sould be fine with a 2.25/2.5 exhaust piping. Dont go any bigger than a 2.5 piping unless you are running turbo, which it doesnt sound like.
i just did another road race on saturday. i ran one of the sessions with my exhaust off from the downpipe.
so much fun, so loud. there was no torque in the buttom end. the top end seemed to be quicker. i didn't notice a stronger pull, but i did get to redline quicker on each sections of the course then the previous session with the exhaust on
