Hardest thing about autocross, showing up for the first time.
Where to do it... Looks like you'd run with the Florida Region
Florida Regin SCCA
Our borders are the southern most tip of Key West, Florida to the Gulf of Mexico on the West, the Atlantic Ocean on the East and North including the counties of Broward, Collier, Dade, Hendry, Monroe, and Palm Beach in the Sunshine State of Florida.
From their site, looks like they charge $30 for the event.
For more info..
SOLO COMMITTEE:
John Stovall, Chairman - H: 954-709-2223 or W: 954-570-5510 or biopest@comcast.net
other places to do it.
Central Florida SCCA

I'm in Las Vegas Nevada...
Only requiremends is that the car must beable to pass a basic safty inspection. (the battery must be secure, the wheel bearings must be tight, all the lugs nust must be on, the tires must not be showing any cord. Brakes must be in working order.) Thats it.

Don't they care if you are a good driver or not? You can go on your personal time(if the track is open) just to drive around and enjoy yourself, you don't have to race other people right?

Ok, it seems you don't quite understand what autocross is. So the first thing I'm gonna say is go to www.scca.org and read about what it is.
Its a Time trial, not a "race" persay... its you vs. a timer. You don't race anyone but yourself. You can't just go on personal time, you show up to an event, pay your money, class your car and make your runs. Whether or not you're there to win or just have fun is your own perogative, but it is an organized and sanctioned event. Don't look at it like a Drag Strip test and tune where you do what you want.
As far as "good driver"... everyone has to start. As long as you don't drive intentionally reckless, no one will raise a fuss. Should they find you having a little trouble staying on the course, chances are someone experienced will ride along with you to keep you pointed in the right direction. Most people are very helpful to noobs.

There is an autocross section within track/street/strip. There is a FAQ and other info. I am gonna move that thread there now.
Oh this is awesome. I should've looked. Thanks!
I am somewhat worried that when I go they will look down on me since I have a civic, is that the case? Are people friendly enough to help you out if you need help. I have an intake, I read through the guidelines and I still think I fall in the stock category. Is this true?

No, take the intake off and put your stock intake on. Stock class you are allowed: cat back exhaust, aftermarket shocks, but no springs, rims the same size as factory with any type of tire, any modification to the front sway bar (either smaller or larger), and small cosmetic crap. The rules and classifications are in the FAQ. You don't want to be in STS because of your intake so take it off when you go to race.

No one is going to make fun of you for driving a civic. In Fact a Lil' ol' civic is the top dog in STS right now. (The 4th gen Si) beating out all sorts of "faster" cars like Integras, Celicas, Subaru 2.5RS ect ect ect...
Go to your first event, Have some fun and then be hooked on it for the rest of your life.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help and nice comments. I am going to enjoy myself and most likely will be hooked. I will keep on asking for more pointers as time goes by. Thanks

I am a member of the SCCA, Some regions require it, some dont. Most regions policy is that you cant acumulate points unless you are a member (For trophys at the end of the season). There are also Insurance benifits to being a member, as well as most regions give a discount to members.
From looking at their site, I'd Contact one of the Solo II Chairmen soloiicochairman@cfrsolo2.com is the Email listed.
You could also Contact their Registrar ecregistrar@cfrsolo2.com
Just tell them that you are interested in autocrossing and ask them what you need to race with their region. Otherwise, Just show up at an event. (Thats what I did) Looks like their next pratice day is June 26th with an official event on the 27th.

I raced a few before I was a member of the SCCA. If you plan on sticking with it, it is a good thing, but if you just want to try it out, go a few times without being a member. Talk to the guys with the grey hair and fast times!
