New-Old Civic Owner

Greetings All,

Previous proud owner of a beautiful 04 LX coupe. Finally bought a replacement in 2018 and, although a fun and efficient car, I haven’t had the same experience of reliability as I did with the 04. Overall quality seems to have come down. Currently considering whether to stick it out and mod it up to bomb proof or sell before the value drops too much. Joining the forum to learn more about what might be possible. Cheers!

Of those two options, I’d probably sell. Not many mods I’m aware of that’ll help with reliability. What kind of issues are you having?

Thanks for the quick responses guys, so far (between 0 and 106k) issues have been:
-AC compressor (recall/TSB)
-random no start/slow to start (weeks apart, no obvious cause)
-brakes corroding and falling apart (for comparison my 04 brakes were still ok when I changed at 240k.
-oil consumption when following the maintenance minder interval (I have switched to 8k oil and filter changes to avoid)
-also the paint seems really easily damaged, I am the extreme opposite of a tailgater and careful washer and have many chips and marks already.

None have left me stranded but just a different experience, more what I would expect from a domestic and wondering what else is coming.

Re: New-Old Civic Owner

That’s a shame to hear. We’re hearing mixed reviews on the later generation civics. I can’t really say anything because the TSX is the newest car I’ve had, and that’s more accord than it is civic.

But if there’s ever a time to sell, it’s right now. As you probably know, prices are through the roof.

Are you not driving it much and parked outside?

Yes you’d think so as some of the issues fit that profile. I actually commute about 500km/wk (highway) and also use it for most errands in town in lieu of my thirstier truck. It is a heated garage queen from about Nov-April. I wash it weekly in warm weather and about every 2 wks in winter- to get the salt off mainly as not winning the detail battle during the dark season
