Welcome to the site, I personally prefer 7th gen civics to 6th gen civics so I would go with an 01 or 02. If your on a budget and are serious about modding there are way more parts available both new and used for a 6th gen though, you also have more options for engine swaps the older you go.

Re: Future Civic owner !!

Your welcome, sir. There are some pretty sick options out there for 7th gens, they're just all five times the price of 6th gen stuff.

The 6th gens also have a wishbone suspension, where as in 2001 Honda began using macpherson struts. Although I don't personally notice much difference in handling between my civic with macpherson struts and a civic with wishbones, if you were to heavily modify both suspensions the 6th gen would have a slight advantage in handling.

Re: Future Civic owner !!

or if you plan to race, there are really a few 7th gen that can take down a doublewishbone-camber-gaining-light-as-hell car as the 6th or earlier gen are.
However, due to aging, much more maintenance is required so it requires mechanic skills or you will be frequentely here searching for tips (hopefully not asking first, but searching first )
