Damn you Civic...

I've had a hate on for Hondas my entire life. I would probably have made fun of most of you for driving a civic. I don't know... something about the stigma of young irresponsible drivers and asian guys in civics getting pulled over for no reason... yet here I am with a 2005 LX-G.

You guys all suck. I just really dislike the irony that out of all the cars out there, this car was the best choice for me.

- 5-speed so I can get used to it in traffic as I have delusions of driving a 911 GT2 one day.
- Rust-free exterior
- 2-year dealer warranty
- cheap as heck $85 bi-weekly

If I wasn't in school I wouldn't have considered it but here I am with a year left and need something that could also transition into the world of IT security.

So that's it. I still suck at driving this thing but it's surprisingly fun to drive. It's like driving a go-kart to work everyday. The dealer was insisting that I was gonna keep it for a long time but I really want to give it to my sister in a year or two. I hope I don't get attached to it.

That said, pretty soon I can start driving without turning the radio off. I'm starting to get a better feel for it. My foot is still a little heavy so I' still using a little clutch on 2nd. Bad me. But... my biggest complaint about this car is the sound...

I have a pair of 6x6 JBLs, a pair of 6x9 pioneers, and an old Sony deck in my basement. How does one go about taking off the panels to get at these things? An hour of googling has turned up with no results specific to my interior. Does anyone have a link?

Thanks.

Re: Damn you Civic...

Sooooo......
you come in here bashing on us...then ask us for help?

I understand your fantasies of a 996/997, i have those too, however, a 5 speed civic is nothing compared to a twin turbo porsche

and don't stereotype civics with asian ricers, there are ricers, and there are asians.
difference, asian ricers give us the bad rapport with cops. Asians buy honda's because they are not american cars, they are durable, reliable, and fairly priced. I agree, not all asians are the best drivers, but not all white/black/hispanic, etc are the best drivers either

Ontopic:
Even though google has given you nothing, the search feature on this website is provided.
There is a DIY on how to remove rear panels on the 7th gen civics
You need 6x9's on your rear panel

And btw, you can't have completely hated the civic. because there had to be something you liked in order for you to buy it. IE. reputation as dependable, cheap, and sturdy

Re: Damn you Civic...

I own a civic now. If black people can call other black people ******s without getting in trouble, a guy with a civic can make fun of civics without getting in trouble. :P

Let me have this one. It was tough enough switching from domestics my whole life.

Thanks though. I saw an article in one of the forum bot posts.

Not all Asian dudes are ricers.Actually, most of the time they're American guys who watched the Fast and the Furious series trying to duplicate the Japanese car scene, but ultimately failed and started a new genre of ugly sucky cars and haters. And Civics aren't that bad to drive if you're not looking for performance. If you're looking for performance, the best Civic you could get is the Type R which isn't available in the US.

Yep
civics are not meant to be race cars, they are daily drivers. movies, media, and stupidity made people buff up a civic and make it look...."ricey"
But to be honest, people can rice out any car, including american, like mustangs
Civic's just get the heat the most because it's cheap and plenty of parts around for it, so everyone gets it

Re: Damn you Civic...

Self mockery is something I find funny. It's all a joke so don't cry. If you didn't catch on to this by now, I'll just tell you right out: I realize it's a daily driver. Close your eyes and throw a rock out onto the highway during rush hour and you'll probably hit a civic. It's a good affordable car. That's why I bought it. So sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

For the record, I've been on auto my entire life and only drove stick a couple times before. I want to get used to stick as most of the world drives standard and yeah... I would rather burn the clutch learning on a car like this rather than burning the clutch on something way more expensive after I graduate.

I DON'T want to rice it up. I can live with the stock performance as I don't find any use for anything more. It actually has plenty and is pretty responsive for what it is. The stock body is good with me too as it is clean and the black paint makes it look like just another car while remaining presentable. The only thing I want is decent sound.

It's a 2005 sedan so it's tough to find DIY guides for removing the headboard. That's all I want and it's the only thing I can't seem to find.

Lol.That's why I said an Audi or SOMETHING.I wouldn't choose it because of performance for track use,but more for open roads and freeways. If I wanted a performance car to take to the track,Carrera GT baby.If I could afford a expensive performance car I would definitely get a Carrera GT or GT2/GT3.

Re: Damn you Civic...

$450,000 is so worth it if you had the money.Carrera GT's do have the voice of an angel.I will always prefer a Carrera GT over any Ferrari. The Brabus Mclaren SLR is high up on my list though. The Brabus had over 1000 ft/lb of torque when first made, but it was so much. When it launched off the line, there was so much tire spin, the tires wore out before it could get traction. So Mclaren lowered it to around 850 ft/lb of torque. It's still so much though. The traction control constantly adjusts to the still massive wheel spin. Thanks to Top Gear for this info hahaha.

Yea, I agree, totally worth it
I prefer a CGT over a lambo/ferrari anyday
Those are common supercars, but Porsche, phew, way to go!
I think that's the only supercar i'd ever buy, other than a reventon

Have you ever seen/heard VRAlexander's straight pipe CGT?

You guys are lame, the Corvette ZR1 is where it's at and you know it. Plus it's a butt load cheaper and domestic so you can put your head up high when you drive it. And you know a 7 liter V8 sounds way better than those other chick cars you guys are talking about.

The Vette is Made Primarily of Carbon Fiber Body panels, and is faster than the Porsche that cost's 4 times as much. So if you are a dumb yuppie that wants to show off your money then get the Porsche, but if you want to go fast and look badass while doing it then get the Vette.

I don't really care cause I can't afford either one anyways.hahahaha.Atleast at the moment I can't.Believe me,I have much respect for the Corvette.A badass car indeed. And if I had the money,I would probably buy a GT-R R35.Although it has a flappy panel gearbox which displeases me.Or a classic '67 GT500 Super Snake Eleanor.Favorite bad *** car all time right there.

Link is broken 02civicsi02.What is it?Scratch that GT-R 35.I'd rather get a Lotus Evora,CGT,or a ZR1.I would say a Zonda F,but too expensive.I'd rather buy a house with that kinda money.Lotus Evora is slowly moving up the ranks in my WTB list if I had the money.

Re: Damn you Civic...

Ah.Much better.Looked about dead even IMO.But the problem about the GTR is it's "untuneable" or hard to tune. And the 180kmh speed limiter. The GPS in the GTR is set up to get rid of the limiter when the car reaches a race track. But the track has to be on the approved list by Nissan, but I believe it isn't in the American models. To bypass the ECU,you have to hack into it.MINE's,HKS,MCR,Top Secret,etc... have been able to bypass the ECU.An alternative is to buy an aftermarket ECU from these tuning houses rather than bypass it yourself. The hacked ECU also deletes the speed limiter.

That's the voice of one that never drove a Porsche :P

I drove the 500HP Z06, I can't deny, it looks and drives nice, but it's still not a porsche

I remember when clarkson made fun of the vette for being plastic on top gear as well
I say, a corvette is a nice cheap fast car, its in fact the ONLY american car I would get
But honestly, for 100 grand, Id rather get a 997 Turbo
vette's are only good on straightaway, so either drag racing, or road rage. I do neither :P

Im really biased against American cars, so theres not much use convincing me
To me, a rear flat 6 engine right behind your seat screaming at you is much better than a V8 up in the front roaring at pedestrians

If you think $110k is cheap then I want to know how you make a living.

.98 ain't too shabby on the skidpad. I don't know why everyone has the misconception that Vettes can't go around corners. The vette is built for the track. It's actually pretty crappy in drag race because it is geared for speed. Even it's suspention has trouble hooking up from a dead stop.

The last statement makes no sense. You only have a firewall between you and the engine in either car. And if you like the sound of a little 6 over a 7liter V8, well to each their own I guess.

I have driven a 2 turbo porsche (modded for the track) and an C5 and C6 Z06. The Porsche was fun but the Z06 had way more grunt and no lag. And how can you want bug eyes over the classic coke bottle/wedge shape? If Jessica Alba was a car she would be a Vette. I would take the ZO6 over the Porsche any day.

and everyone has their own opinion, like why would you like a rotweiler over a pitbull? when the other guy gets a pug...

and I actually like the sound of the engine right behind me, its like a crazy backseat driver
also, i like the looks of porsche, it seems smooth and elegant, not chiseled down and agressive, like the vette, or the Z4

I guess everyone has their own preference, i prefer a car that looks like any other luxury car, but in reality, it can eat them for breakfast. its like a an audi/bmw with a little more pizazz, oh...and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

I didnt say that the vette was a bad car, I just like the 911's more, i also think it's so funny how all these new cars like GT-R, ZR1, etc uses the 911 GT2/Turbo as a benchmark to beat

Re: Damn you Civic...

Well said.I'm not too sure why they compare the newer supercars to a GT2 either. The GT2 costs twice as much as a GT-R at $190,000 too.The GT-R also has about 50hp less and weighs more.Believe me,the GT2 is a great car though. The twin turbo flat 6 putting out 530hp/505ft/lb of torque and weighs over 300 pounds less than the regular 911 turbo.

Uh... the vette eats supercars for breakfast.

And the vette does 0-60 in 3.3 and will do 220+mph. And it will destroy the the Porsche from a roll on. It's geared for speed and track racing, not for drag racing. The only really nice thing about Porsche's are their brakes which are the benchmark for cars. I am sorry, but a Porsche is not a luxury car nor does it look like one. They are little 2 seaters with no room in the interior and minimal creature comforts.

Yes,I have to agree with you there. They are 2 seaters. The back seats aren't designed for daily use.I don't consider them luxury because all the money you spend goes to the performance wise of the car.A luxury to me is an Audi or a BMW.But Porsches are nice.Personally,I like the way the Cayenne looks, but I'd buy a Audi Q5 or a Range Rover over it.
