I am new to the whole forum thing I guess, but why does everyone and there mother seem to post a seemingly generic message with a single word bump.

What does it all mean?

If you look at the new posts, eventually you fall all the way to the bottom and potentially out of the way for people to answer you. For instance right now you are at the top. But in a day or so if nobody responds you will be lost forever with no answer. So you "bump" your thread by replying to it so it goes to the top again and another round of people will look incase they missed it the first time. A bump every now and then is ok, but constant bumps every hour is just annoying. So use the power carefully.
