New Admin Introduction
Hi my name is, Dave, I am with Xoxide Inc. the new owners of 7thGenCivic Forums. I first off want to apologize for not posting earlier. I have been so busy moving the site to the new server, upgrading vB and making any adjustments required to keep the site up and running that I have not had a chance to reply to post or introduce myself. I want everyone to know I do intend to be an active admin. If you ever have a question or concern feel free to PM me.
We want to see 7thgencivic grow and become the best knowledgebase for all civic owners. The site has an incredibly dedicated member base and group of volunteer moderators. This was a big part of the decision to buy the site. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with everyone on the forum for continued improvements and growth with this community.
We have moved the site to a much faster server as some of you may have noticed. The forum is loading quicker and providing a better user experience.
New Server:
• Dual Xeon 7030 CPUs (that’s dual, dual-core 2.8GHz)
• 12GB RAM (well, currently 8GB but they’re working on the upgrade now)
• (2) 73GB 10K RPM Drives in RAID 1
• (8) 300GB 10K RPM Drives in RAID 10
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
o Custom kernel based on 2.6.16 (stock RHEL is based on 2.6.9)
o Apache 2.2.2
o PHP 5.1.4
o MySQL 5.0.22
We also upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin which added many new features.
One of the first things we did was cut down on ads for guests. We felt this was really restricting the growth of the website. Earlier today after reading many of the member comments we also cut down advertising for members and eliminated advertising for premium members. We want members of 7thgencivic to understand we are here for the long run. We want to see the site grow and we are willing to listen to the members and work with members who have suggestions to improve the site.
During the site upgrade and move to the new server the massive amount of plugins (many of which were already disabled), caused issues with the database. In an effort to revive the site and get things back up and running we lost many of these. We know many of these features were loved by the members here. We would like to bring them back. Please post or PM me and let me know which of these features you enjoyed and we will begin to bring them back.
We are already working on many of things we have seen members request, like the ability to change skins and trader points. Immediately we have removed all advertising for premium members and imported some different skins. Please let us know what else you would like to see changed and we will do what we can.
Lastly, I just wanted to clear up an issue I have heard many complaints about. Immediately before the site was sold to us, Derek flooded the site with advertising in a final attempt to make some extra cash before the sale. We apologize for his action and want the members of the site to know we did not take part in this. It is not our intent to ever run this kind of advertising.
We are excited about the future of 7thgencivic and look forward to working with all the long-term members here.
Thank You,
Dave - Admin
