LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
So im not an electrican when it comes to car wiring, but I cant seem to figure out how to do this for the life of me....
I purchased some led turn signals to replace the stock halogens in my 01 civic. Now as some of you know the turn signals stay illuminated even when you dont have your directional on, and when you turn it on, they blink. (get me?) Heres the steps I tried so far...
1) Simply pluged them in, didnt work obviously
2) Correctly wired in load resistors, leds blinked...but didnt stay illuminated (tried multiple load resistors)
3) Purchased the EP-34 Tridon led flasher...blinked, but again hyperflash was not the problem
4) Had 7440 type(single filament) thought that was the problem, purchased new 7443 (dual fil), leds STAYED illuminated but didnt blink when signal turned.
5) Thought the leds might be polarized so I flipped them during each trial. And tried using load resistors and the new flasher unit together, but to no avail.
I JUST WANT THE LEDS TO STAY ILLUMINATED AND BLINK WHEN I TURN!!just liek the halogens do
I know they can do it and im doing something wrong.

Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
is it front or rear signal? if its front, it should be a 7443 bulb and has dual intensity dim for park light and bright for signal. if the led bulb isnt doing this already, its a defective bulb. if its the rear, then it only does single intensity blinking and you need to rewire the socket.
Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
the bulb is a 7443. Ive tested the led on my battery and it works, and it works in the socket. Switch the headlights on and they illuminate, then go to turn the blinker (with the tridon in) and you hear it blinking but the bulb just stays illuminated. I dont get it. I even tried flipping the bulb. Just purchsed the bulbs too.
Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
yes, the stock halogens work fine. When I plug one of the led bulbs in one side and leave the other stock halogen, have the tridon in, i turn it toward the side with the halogen and it works fine and blinks, but then to the led side and it just stays lit. Are the led blinkers ment to to both functions (stay lit and blink?) Im getting so frustrated over something so stupid Im about ready to give up. Any ideas gearbox?

Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
hmm im thinking either you got bad led bulbs or they sent you a 7440 single by mistake. not all leds can do both functions.
Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
Is there a way to test to see if it does both functions (blink/illuminate) without it being in the socket? Im pretty sure its a 7443 because it has four leads. where the first pair i had only had two.

could you take pics of the bulbs (specifically the leads)? and where'd you get them from?

Re: LED Turn Signal serious help!!!!
bulb connector should have three wires. one is ground, one is turn power, the other is park power. get a multimeter and set it to measure 12v. put the black lead into the ground wire pin, and then test each power wire with the red lead as you either turn the park light on or the signal. if they get power when supposed to, the connector is fine. but sometimes the bulb sockets can cause the bulb to bottom out and cross wires. try slightly pulling the led bulb out and see if it works then.
