D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
Ebay blacked out projectors looked nice for the past 3 months, but I really miss having HIDs. After nights of thinking it over, I finally decided to reseal my OEM headlights and re-install my old HIDs. The unfortunate happened when I discovered my cheap aftermarket HID kit is now having a problem - the driver's side bulb flickers every 15 minutes or so. I have a feeling the bulb is going to die soon.
I've had enough of aftermarket crap. I'm really thinking of retrofiting some projectors into my OEM housing. In the mean time, I still would like to have the convenience of HIDs so I'm thinking of buying Denso ballasts and D2S bulbs with an H4 adaptor & glare shield. Would this work well as far as light output in my reflector housing?
Only reason I'm considering D2S bulbs is I would like to retrofit by next year. By doing this, I can just simply reuse the D2S bulbs in my retrofit. Just hope light output would be decent in the reflector housing....
Thanks,
Lewis

Re: D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
i haven't seen and H4 shields in awhile. seen H7's, not H4's. just go ahead and do the retro the right way. i've got TSX projectors and i love em. i'm running philips 85122+ bulbs on matsushita gen 3's. they're good cause they're potted and you don't have to worry about water.
Re: D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
I've got a spare set of lights so I definitely can take my time on this project to make it perfect. Until I get the retrofit done, I guess I'll be driving around with the D2S and H4 adaptors.
I'm thinking of either FX bixenon or E46 bixenon in the OEM housing. Any other suggestions? By the way, does anyone know why the Infinite FX projectors are so cheap lol?
I just ordered a Masushita kit (4300K) so pictures will be up around next week of it in my reflector housing. This will be a unique experience since I've always been driving around in either 6000K or 8000K

Re: D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
some people say that HID's aren't good for bad weather, but i've driven my car in heavy fog and heavy rain and i love my HID's. i've got them in my fogs too. i feel blind when i drive my wife's car in similar weather and she has halogens. i've been trying to get her to buy HID's for awhile now, but she doesn't want to spend the money.

Electric,
I already have the harness since I've ventured thru 2 HID kits already
I do plan on making a custom harness since I'm going bixenon and dont' want the HIDs to turn off when I switch to high beams. Your wiring schematic for H4 negative switch on hidplanet was very helpful. +rep for you. Do you think I can post it here so others can reference?
I got the complete matsushita package from an ebay seller which includes 4300K D2S Phillips bulbs. Not sure if its waterproof or what gen matsushita it is, but I'll brush some silicon around any gaps of the ballasts to be safe.
Brand new Matsushita kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...6022&rd=1&rd=1
H4 to D2S adaptor (he gave them to me free of charge): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H4-90...1432QQtcZphoto

based on the pics in his auction, i don't think the ballast is sealed. it looks like there's a couple screws to remove the cover. if you take that off and can see the insides and they're exposed, then you need to seal it. if you get to the insides and there's a sealant/cover (potting material) over all the components, then you should be fine without sealing it.
Re: D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
I just finished another retro. e39 colormodded projectors into a ebay housing. i just finished today so gimme a day or so and i can post some pics. either a ballast or my battery is about to crap out. one of them flickers when i have my stereo and AC running. I just ordered a new one so hopefully that will fix everything.
Re: D2S With H4 Adaptor/Shield
Anyways I read somewhere on HiDPlanet that they needed to be recalled for headlight problems something to do with glare and adjustment or something like that. The projectors were still fine though and instead of fixing it/techs didnt know how they just replaced it with whole new headlights.
