why did i buy hids ??

so for a while now i was like man i want hids so i can a lot better and what not. so i bought this kit thinking it was the best way to go, OMG was i ever wrong. my ballasts say 4500K on them, well i'm just going throu a PIAA catalog at work and i found some 5000K bulbs for 80 bucks. i mean damn i just spend close to 280 for a whole hid kit and i could've saved and just bought these bulbs for a lot cheaper. crap i just found some even cheaper raybrig 5000K bulbs for 65 bucks. i'm gonna sell my hid kit now and just get these bulbs. that way i can get some more money and get my rims sooner now. argh i wish i would've done some research before i did this

here's a link to some bulbs i was talking about
http://www.optionsauto.com/prodinfo....mber=PIA-15560

here's also some interesting info

kevlar scale i found in the PIAA book

5250K - sunlight

4500K - usual oem HID setup most of them

3200K - basic halogen headlight

2600K - incodescent bulb

HID > bulbs IMO

You will never see as good of an output of light from a normal bulb as you will with HID.

I'd spend the $280 HIDs don't "burn out" like a regular bulb and the light output is much better than a fake HID bulb.

hid is twice as bright as halogen. those 5k bulbs you plan on buying won't light up the road at all after all the light they rob to give that color.

theirs a reason why HID's cost that much over halogen bulbs. if your wanting just some decent brightness and put out a fashion show, bulbs are fine. piaa makes decent bulbs, i ran their h4 xtreme white series for 1.5-2 years until they popped.

Dude, some aftermarket bulbs are not bright as HID setup.
Just keep everything and save some more money for projectors.

i could be mistaken, but I thought those bulbs will melt the stock harnesses... hence why people don't buy them....

Those numbers are color charts.
The higher the number, the bluer it gets, and the lower the number, the yellower it gets.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BRIGHTNESS/INTENSITY!!!

If its color you want, then please do buy the bulbs and save money.
If its better light output you want, then you can't go wrong with HIDs.

Halogen bulbs just can't match the light output of HIDs.
Some halogens might look brighter than HID when looking INTO the car, but the amount of light HIDs put on the road can't be matched by halogens.

You might need to aim them correctly.
HIDs in stock housing, if aimed right, should cause no glare to oncoming traffic and still provide you with excellent lighting.

What K are you bulbs?
The ballast may say 4500k but ballasts have nothing to do with the K of the bulbs.
Ballasts only start up the light bulb, the color is dependent on the bulb itself.
You might be running something too blue?

I've had H4 HIDs for most of the 5 years I've owned my car and I've never been pulled over for them...and I live in SoCal!

White reflects the rain and fog, which is why most HID equipped cars come with yellow foglights, which penetrate the rain/fog better.

No, stick with HIDS. I got some phillips Hids with some D2R bulbs with casper shield in my stock housings and they are great as every. Very very very little glare, plus there is nothing like STOCK hids

+1.

I don't have any issues with cops. I haven't been pulled over in my Civic. Don't plan on it either.

I have had three or four folks flash their high-beams at me when approaching them. I lowered the beams, and nobody has flashed me.

hid is an expensive mod, remember even with a retrofit, you're gonna be paying $100 a bulb when they go out.

dealerships will charge you a shitload of money for these bulbs. but they're actually just a little bit more expensive than halogen. it's the aftermarket HID capsules that cost a lot.
