making own HID kit w/ D2R bulbs

I have been reading about HID kits and retros. I plan on adding HID to my 2004 Honda civic with a 9006 bulb size, since I do a good amount of night-time driving. Doing a retro is to expensive so i was looking at making my own kit. I was thinking about buying ballasts, D2R bulbs and an wirring kit.

Do you think it would be best to follow that route or just buy a kit? Also the highest i will go is 6000K. If you think making my own kit would be best could you tell me a complete list parts and what ballest and bulbs you would use?

Thanks,
Chris

well you're not going to be able to fit hte d2r into the 9006 socket...and going with higher than 4100k will jack up your price a hell of a lot more than you would expect.

http://www.hidplanet.com/package.html go there and buy one of their OEM "kits." it comes with ballasts, bulbs, ballast covers.

I have another question. What would be involved for doing a reflector based HID retrofit, for example the ballast and bulbs from an IS300. WHat parts would I need?

i don't think its worth it to do a reflector retrofit. If your going to do a retrofit just use projectors. Projectors will probably be easier to get and give you a better cutoff then the reflector based hids.

I I took my oem headlights and used wire clippers to cut the tiny tac welds off of the bezel around the bulb and then dremeled it out so that I could fit the d2r bulb in it's place. This was a year ago. Check ebay. Now they sell adapters for about 40 machined out of aluminum
