High wattage bulbs are not harmful to the electrical system
I found an interesting article on halogen bulbs and some misconceptions and facts and about them. According to this article higher wattage bulbs if installed properly and your wiring and housings are in good condition, the bulbs will not cause your wires to melt or drain your battery. The extra 35-40 watts equals less than 3 amps which is not significant enough to cause any damage. I thought that was interesting since there are many stories of exploding bulbs and melted wires floating around the site.

i'll just say if you want to take your chances with higher wattage bulbs, then go ahead. try to justify the product. just don't come running back to me when something happens.

Rep Power: 812 Higher wattage bulbs will work great WITH an upgraded wire harness with thicker wires run directly to the battery. Also you guys have to realize that a higher wattage bulb, while burning more brightly, will not last nearly as long as standard wattage. "A light twice as bright burns only half as long" bla bla bla.... 
didnt work for me.
i had a set of piaa foglights that were originall 35w/55w. i thought i was gonna be safe putting in some 55w/85w... melted the lense. but i was expecting it, they were lower model piaa fogs. learned my lesson and would never put in higher wattage bulbs. but im sure some lights can take high watts if there top line

Rep Power: 0 Had a Prelude before, installed some 12V 130W H1 bulb, burned for about 2 hours, very bright on road......The other day I found out the cap inside the light housing turned brown. I put back the 55W bulb, went to the dealer, and said, "I don't know what the hell is going on, it just turned brown." Those guys had nothing to say and replaced 2 of my headlights for free, under warranty...
