crappy HID kits.....

Am I the only one who hates those idiots out there who buy those HID kits and install them in their cars just so that they will blind every other driver on the road. Not only is it illegal to do that but its dangerous. I myself have a true retrofit with A6 projectors. The reason why I bring this up is because I just got home from dinner and it was dark out and raining so the visibility was very poor. So here comes some riced out civic from behind me with some HID kit installed bling the hell out of me. I could tell it was a kit because it was literally blue and VEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRy bright. Keep in mind my car is at stock level and his was lowered. Pissed me off a lot. Does anyone else agree with me on this.

mate i wouldnt be so upset. that kid doesnt have extra dow to get normal setup that a reason most kids ended up with cheapest chinese kits blinding everone on the road. For instance I got a trip to Montreal last week and almost all folks were flashin me, cause my lights are too strong plus I have HID on foggies, so when I turn on all lights it seems sunny day comes up again. I need it and I love it, I hate to drive at night time. what should I do? But if I turn on my hi beams it likes like 1.000.000 sun candels light up the road, it is too strong. Of course I use shields and my headlights are designed for HID even they are halogen (true JDM setup), but it gives me what I want to have. I agree with you about color like purple etc, it is sucks, but I use only 4100K.thats my point.

I agree that after market HID kits suck.

Usually you can get all OEM parts for the price of an aftermarket kit. Then $200-$300 to retrofit them in. This is less than $1 investment per day to have quality lighting system.

all hids are brighter than halogen for the most part even stock. I've only seen a very select few where I can stare at em and not be blinded. Yea alot of ricers get junk kits and don't aim them, that's the problem. But there are good kits, so long as you know how to install they won't be a danger to anyone. I used to have a catz kit and nobody ever flashed me not even cops. I looked at them next to someone's halogen from far away and couldn't tell a difference other than the light being whiter. Alot of stock hids which I hate are on the nissan/z and alot of trucks. they are so blinding I have to put my hand up to see the road. Now thats a danger.

Have any of you noticed that even halogen bulbs produce glare?

it makes sense that since xenon light is brighter, that even glare would be brighter...

Reflector VS Projectors is where its at

exactly. Thanks impulse. Why cut corners to get more light on the road when it could be potentially dangerous to other drivers. Where I live there are a lot of elderly people who have a hard enough time driving on the road at night. Now imagine some car with a bad glaring HID coming at them. It would literally scare them to death and possibly endanger others nearby. Projectors do not glare at all. They have a clean cutoff and actually produce more light on the road unlike a HID kit which sucks. Do it the right way or don't do it at all. Its not that expensive if cost comes to mind. There are a few websites out there who would actuallt walk you through the process.

Although I am also a resident retrofitter, I would have to disagree with you. Projectors DO create glare. DOT specifications require that every lighting system on the road have a little bit of glare to light up road signs. For example, Bosch's single xenon projectors have a thin metallic strip behind the projector lense to throw light upwards. Additionally, the colors produced by the projector at the cutoff can also be classified as glare. It is stray light that just so happens to reside in the actual cutoff. It's very colorful, and from far away, will have a flickering effect of bright colors which could cause seizures.

HID kits are usually around $300. Retrofit is usually around $600.

What light does not produce glare?

Anything that lights up will produce glare, end of story

true but....

The amount of glare given off from projectors is far less than the glare given off from an HID kit. You have to agree with me on that. I think there has to be more education on this forum for those people who wish to use an HID kit as opposed to a retrofitted set of lights with projectors. I am just raising this issue with what happened to me the other night. I am sick of these little
s*!#% with these riced out cars that use these HID kits. It sucks. Meanwhile, I see many drivers on here thinking its ok to use these kits not knowing how dangerous it could be to other drivers.

Quick question off topic I am confused about. I heard the catz kit uses rebased d2r bulbs that are made just for catz and they can't use regular d2r since they won't fit. Could someone clear this up for me. Someone who is very educated on hidplanet told me that catz uses special bulbs that cannot be purchased anymore becasue the kit is illegal in North America.
