VHO HIDs ???

Alright, well I already got my HIDs, but when I was looking at ebay, i found some 50watt, or 55watt Very High Output HIDs. Has anyone tried these ? Is it some scam ? Any info would be good just for my knowledge on the topic.

If someone tries to tell me to search, ill slap them ! The search engine doesn't like 3 letter words.

55 watts? dont do it unless it's PHILIPS brand. make sure it's PHILIPS by looking at the pictures. there is absolutely no benefit to the regular user to get 55w HID over 35w HID.

i tried to search for warranty info but they make it very hard to find...I didn't see anything. And it looks like a home made kit. I wouldn't get that. Prolly won't last more than a month.

VHO (Very High Output)

LOL (Laugh Out Loud)

so dumb.. btw, a 35watt ballast vs 55watt ballast is almost the same thing... waste of money to upgrade and ruin a bulbs life faster

and isn't the whole point to get a cooler running light that uses less wattage? Well that and more light output. I'd stick with regular hid.

well, people that have a retrofit or people with oem hids can purchase the 55 watt ballasts and 55 watt bulbs

its basically the "next" step

well, i nice to hear.
But are you guys saying this from fact, or just from your theories. Thats another thing. I'm not here to bash on anything, or try to challenge anyone since I dont know much bout HIDs. I'm electronically knowledgeable, and most of the time, more power = brighter. So if someone can prove this without simple theories, I would be glad to listen.
Impulse, you mentioned 35watt is "ALMOST" the same as a 55watt. Well, here you already went wrong. So your saying a ballast that is 55watt and a bulb was made to be 55watt specific wouldnt that increase lums. (Comparing 5000k 35watt vs 5000k 55watt)

you are correct in assuming that the more wattage you put through the ballast and bulb, the more lumens you will have on the road. however, the bulb life decreases (i'm guessing) 2% (two percent), and the difference in light output is minimal. it's not theory. you can read up about it on hidplanet.com/forums

well, I would assume lifespan would decress. but from a 7 year bulb. 2% is minimal. From the pictures on the ebay link, brightness seems to have increased enough to take the trade off of 2% lifespan.

the cost of these 55w ballasts are pretty steep too. i remember impulse showing me them awhile back. they made the 35w ballast look a little yellow.

i can't complain with mine though. so until mine go out, i don't plan on bothering with the higher wattage ballasts/bulbs. (i do however, want to bother with d2s valeos )

How am I wrong? I wrote, "almost", I didnt say they were exactly the same...

Its like comparing 4300k to 6000k, ALMOST the same BRIGHTNESS (yes diff color) but we are talking about brightness

now, your talking about color... so a 55watt 5000k kit would be a diffrent color then a 35watt 5000k kit ? and would ALMOST have the same brightness... something doesn't sound right here...

55w ballast will have marginally better performance than 35w. the price difference is not worth the minimal increase in light output. also, the main reason for people to switch from halogen (55w) to hid (35w) is because hid consume less power, run cooler than halogen, and put out waaaaaaay more light than halogen.

5000k = brighter than 6000k, right? duh

so... if you can imagine this in your head.

Think of the brightness of 5000k compared to 6000k

make pertend 5000k = the 55watt ballast and the 6000k = the 35 watt ballast

thats the difference in brightness that you would achieve after spending $500 on 55 watt ballasts

now u confused me beyond belief...
5000k is brighter then 6000k yes (at 35watt and even 55watt)
so... if the 5000k was 55watt and the 6000k was 35watt, the 5000k would be a noticeable rightness.
If the 5000k was 35watt and 6000k was 55watt, i would believe that brightness diff would be minimal. Is this what you are trying to get across ?

just stop reading what i write.... cause idk why its so hard to understand...

IT has nothing to do with color... **** blue **** purple

4300k 55watt vs 4300k 35watt
5000k 35 watt vs 6000k 35 watt - Brightness difference = the same above...

If you are confused after reading this, im just lockin the thread cause, i dont see how else to explain it to you
