are HID's for me?
are HID's for me?
I drive a lot in the country at night (at least once or twice a week) and constantly use my Hi beams. I keep seeing these posts and the HID's for the civics only have lo beams. would that not be a good idea to get HID's then? and would it be better to have OEM or projectors? i just have to see deer and whatever off the side of the road all the time and wanted to know what anyone else did.

honestly, the high beam on my hids shines so far you won't see it on the road. The low beam is much better and you can see further than halogen anyway. The only thing I use hi beams for is to **** off cars that cut me off.
and if i did want to use the projectors (for looks) whats up w/ the 4 light bulb settings in the projectors instead of the 3 like OEM has? do you keep the halogens plus the HID's? or is it an either/or situation w/ those

The projectors usually have hi and low beam as separate lenses. So the projector would be the hid and the hi beam would just be a halogen bulb. Projectors really need to be retrofitted for hid. They don't look good at all if you slap a kit in there.
if your driving in the dark and theres no oncomming traffic, i would save the bucks and cont. using the high beams.
maybe a set of fog/driving lamps may help? but thats more for illuminating street signs and whatnot.

so i might as well keep OEM. can you just throw a kit in there? like that one thats being sold on this site (impulse)? or do you need something to make that work w/o getting pulled over.
Just buy an H4 plug and play kit, you'll see way more with HID's.
If theres a lot of fog and snow where you drive, HID's arnt as good as halogens. However I live in Toronto Canada, weather gets pretty bad here and although you do sort of get that white out effect from HID's in snow and fog, you still have more light then most cars. And the more light you have the faster and brighter road marker signs and safety shards become. So you may see less, but you would be amazed at how reflective those ordinarly dull refelctive signs look.
HIDs look so damn cool too, I love driving by big windows with reflections

That's what I did. Mine's a bit better than most, but my friend here got impulse's kit and it looks great in stock housing. Didn't bother me at all driving in front of him. And it puts out tons of light. The lights that bother me most are stupid hid ricers that don't know how to aim down, hid in trucks, and halogen not aimed. I've never been flashed with mine after aiming em.

oh yeah once you get your HID's (which I suggest you order right now and thank me later) pull that stupid parking light.
About Plug and Play vs Projector, projectors look way better, and give you a sharper cut off. Its going to cost you a lot to do it properly.
If your just looking for a bit of wow factor without having to purchase projectors retro fit lenses, and finally aim them then just go with the plug and play. They'll go from the box to your car in like 15 minutes and for a measly $300. You wont have to buy bulbs for a long time.

around $600 in parts and $200 in labor (if you aren't doing it yourself). that should be how much it costs to retrofit a set of TYC projector headlights with Audi A4 projectors and some OEM HIDs.

If you do a projector retrofit, it will look like factory hids. That's the difference. I still don't see a problem putting aftermarket bulbs in oem housing, but the retrofit is much better obviously.

Just get the plug and play kit. You get the same effect without all the hassle of retrofitting.
