Looking for HIDs
Looking for HIDs
I know they are illegal now and Ive searched around, but I really have not found what I am looking for.
I am looking for a set of HIDs that fit the stock headlight housing. Looking to spend between 300-500. I dont really know what brands are respectable and I really dont know where to start. Plug and play would be awesome too.
I also dont want anything brighter than what regular luxury vehicles have. Maybe like a 4100k kit or something.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!

There are alot of sites that still sell them, provided you agree to a disclaimer about using them off road only. They're still legal in Canada, too.

4300K is pure white color. 6000K is actually dimmer than the white and also more blue. So cops will have a field day pulling you over.
These are my 4300K Catz hid:

4300K is the best color to get. Most visibility and no colors--just white. I'm very happy with them and just ordered some hyper white parking lights. Impulse says Philips is good, which is basically what that kit is. So it's probably good.
cool...probably order them soon, thanks for the help
oh, and gearbox, i drool every time i seen your freakin cluster....damn i wish i knew how to do that kind of ****. I may get the courage to do just the *****(a/c, ect...) for now, how hard was that?

*****/buttons were easy, mirror/cruise/roof was insanely hard. But the middle console is fairly simple and just requires time. The whole dash and gauges took over a month to perfect and tons of $$.
Here is another great site and kit, but it's a bit pricey.

Sweet. With the plugin kits, install should be pretty easy. I hid the hardware around the battery and ps reservoir for a clean look. There are places to stick them, so don't worry about that. You're gonna love hid.

thanks, i didnt know the 8000k was only 299.99, but i doubt i still would have went with them, plus they dont use Philips bulbs and ballasts.....I already ordered the 4300k though.

Good luck. Mine look just like stock, but brighter. Not really much glare at all and no aiming yet. I haven't been flashed at all since the install, but they might need some adjustment.
I'll put in a plug for my BMW Retrofit thread I just started since you asked about projector retros... You CAN get a set of bulbs + ballasts on ebay for 225$ shipped... but it is not just plug and play, there's alot of electronics to figure out... Then you just need a H4 shield and wiring harness... I thought I at least knew what I was doing with the wiring, but it took me 3 tries and a full day to make the harness, plus ~30$ in parts.
Projector retrofit thread...

And see whats involved. Now that you have the lights, you can probably just get projectors and retrofit if you choose to do so in the future. But check what's involved...

hey do you guys think it's worth it, buying the HID's from XenonDepot and losing my Highbeams? With my stock lights I have had to use my brights all the time for deer ect. What do you think? Worth spending $576 at

Is your question whether you should lose your high beams? or whether you should spend the 500+$ If you don't mind some work, you can build some bi-xenon projectors with HID for >500$ Or if you don't want that much work, you can buy the D2S to H4 adapters, D2S bulbs on ebay, and HID ballasts on ebay... I would highly reccomend running relays for the ballasts, but Xenondepot or any of the other kits don't have them, so you probably don't have to... But you could buy a similar kit that is of the same quality as Xenon depot... i.e. oem phillips or bosch etc... not some unknown brand... for 300$ But the plug and play solution is out there, i have a good friend who watched me do my bi-xenon projectors and then decided to go with xenondepot... If you don't mind cutting wires and running relays, and basically getting into your electrical system, you can save some loot... but you'll never be able to go back to stock without some major work. Xenondepot's kit will let you revert back in 5 minutes. If you need help with wiring, or whatnot drop me an IM.

Yeah, I was reading there stuff, looks like a good deal actually now at 400$, has the harness to draw power from the battery too... you could probably put a similar kit together for ~330$ or so if you made the harness and everything, but sourcing the parts is a pain int the A$$, at least for the H4 plugs... that price looks alot more tempting than when I was looking at doing them for 500$ or so... Only thing is if you want to switch bulbs, you'd have to get the casper H4 adapter I think, since the Xenondepot ones are rebased bulbs, but I dunno, maybe you can reuse the rebased base that the bulbs come with... the 4300k bulbs put out like 3300 lumen, the 6000k put out like 2000 lumen or something drastically less. Phillips does make a 5000k bulb that is supposed to match older bulbs (as 4300k bulb get old they color-shift to blue) but the 5000k bulbs are 3100 lumen, practically the same light output as the 4300k... but there's probably a reason the 4300k bulbs are standard, probably better in the rain/fog since they're not as blue, but I think most people talk about the blueish bulbs poorly for illumination purposes because most of the higher kelvin bulbs are so drastically dimmer than the 4300k bulbs... hence the nice compromise of 5000k... I wonder why xenondepot no longer sells the 5000k package, I know they used to...
