starts up and runs for ten minutes then dies

i own a 99 civic dx and am what you would call a noob to hondas. only had it 3 weeks and ran great , but now the car starts in the morning and runs for 10 min and then dies. the dash lights are off like now power at all, then when you grab the key the lights come back on the dash and it starts up again. it has died on the highway a few times also. would appreciate any insight on this. thanks

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

This part sounds like a bad ignition switch-- the electrical section of it.

There was a recall on these, ask your dealer to run the VIN to check if it has not been completed yet.

If the recall was already done and the problem came up again, you have to pay for it now. The recall only covers the first one.

Here is a copy of the info: http://109.87.33.216/manuals/auto/Honda/83.pdf

If you have to pay for the repair yourself, the part in the recall info above is cheaper than the parts listed in the catalog.

Found an export bulletin on the same issue, I guess this covers non-US cars: http://www.hondalac.com/service/Bulletins/x02-031e.pdf
