buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

So my speakers are blown and I am forced to get new ones. I am looking to keep the stock covering and really don't know much about speakers so I am looking for some help.

1. What are the best speakers for this car? (I know this might be personal preference just looking for opinions)

2. Is install possible by a noob such as myself? (I do my own basic install stuff like headlights and stuff and would rather do this without paying for it if its not that difficult.)

thanks ahead of time

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Speakers is a very personal preference,

But I have Polk DB6501S Slim mounts. When they are on sale, for $50, they are definitely a good buy. Because they are marine grade and water/dust resistant.

Otherwise, just dont buy Dual, JVC, Sony and cheap brands....
Pioneers, Alpines, and Kenwood are pretty good speakers

Speaker install is pretty straight forward, if you have a wire crimp, and know how to use it, then you can pretty much do it all yourself

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Bose will typically be over $150+ for a pair
They are often referred to a "Girly" speaker, and people buy it for the brand, there are many speakers better than the Bose

Wire crimp should not cost you more than $5 or so
Very useful tool to have around

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Do you still have a stock head unit or aftermarket? If stock, try to make sure that the speakers you get have a sensitivity rating of at least 92-93dB. The higher the number the better. And the brands Kenny mentioned are good.

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

dude i have a 94 ex, babied from previous owners, and it had like the best stock stereo i've ever had. but i like infinity kappa, alpine, memphis and JL. subs is more like memphis, ma audio, audiobahn, rockford fosgate, JL. all these brands have a good range of speakers ranging from usually $50 to as much as you could ever want to spend. i like crutchfield.com good luck.

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

There is pretty much no speaker that will sound good when cranking it to the max. Most head units will start to distort and put out a dirty signal at full volume. That will sound bad and quickly destroy the speaker. You are better off getting an amp to reach the volume level you need without having to turn the volume to max level.

Define Best

And What is MAX?
Max can be a lot of volumes, depending on HU, amp, Listening levels...etc

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

4 months and you still havent purchased the speakers yet? haha

They fit in the 7th gen with a bracket and removal of some plastic surrounding in the panel, otherwise pretty straight forward, if you have some common sense, you'd figure it out

& I'm not kidding when it comes to these products:
Lol, look at the date of this newsletter, not even a week ago.

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Haha I know, budget has been tight lately. I have a 5th gen. civic (95) but still says fits with alteration...idk considering they are pretty much the only speakers with a 92dB sensitivity rating I dont really even have much choice haha. But you have them and you like them right? And this might sound stupid but they don't really specify in the add: It gives me 2 speakers for the $100 or just 1? Oh and last thing is I can't help but see you mentioned you saw them on sale for $50? Mind pointing me in the direction of that site? Or you were just saying if I could get them for 50 itd be a good deal?

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Speakers almost always comes in pairs, unless you are buying subwoofers.

I got my speakers off a guy on craigslist who bought them, and didn't know how to install on his 4runner. Nice pickup for me.
They were brand spanking new, still in sealed bags.

Occassionally, I see them for sale at Fry's Electronic for $50.
But they typically run from $79~$99.

Don't forget, these are also marine quality, so they're virtually waterproof

I'm sure it wont be too hard to install in a 5th gen.

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

thanks man cant thank you enough on how much youve helped me! So i'll prob just buy them for $99 from crutchfield since they give you all the install parts with the speakers considering I might not have all the stuff to do it in my garage. Install pics on the way after I finish finals this week.

Re: buying new speakers & installing on 95 civic? help.

Looks like the differences are in the tweeter composition, power handling and mounting options.
The Db series has a higher power handling and will play lower for better bass.
Other than that they are about the same.
