new sub options...

okay, i sold my system (ben, i hit a 141 with regular techno music)

so now i am planning a new system already. i want just one sub this time, the same kind of box as derek and pimpdakota(wheelwell) and i am planning to use my current rf 360.2 to power it and get a new 4 channel to power the interior. so i am wondering what kind of rf sub works aboe to bridge the amp? and able to fit into the wheel well and still have enough box dimension?

How about avoiding RF subs and get a better sub that will give you a better mix of SQ and SPL...How much you have in yor budget for a sub??..

Simple, he is saying that he wants to stick to one brand with his amps, subs, etc. which I think is cool. In his case it is Rockford.

the interpretation i was really referring to was why. noone ive met in person who has had RF amps liked them, they were always in teh shop getting repaired. RF subs are well known to have SPL, but no SQ. you flat out really cannot mess up wires, so tahts cool, and i have to admit, that now that rf owns mbquart, the component speakers are fantastic. (maybe a better word would be fanatic? )

but yeah, i guess i dont understand why anyone would want RF subs unless they were:

a) going for SPL only, or
b) wanted to but retail from BB or CC or GG, and wanted the best they had to offer. (he2 =/)

there is so much better out there for the same money, tho that can hit as loud or louder! And a crap load of subs that sound FANTASTICLLY better, but cant quite get it up to volume (assuming your trying to keep that SQ, that is)

hav eyou thought about infinity perfect? 150 on ebay, will get decently loud (prolly wont match rf tho) but your getting wonderful SQ.

have you thought baout shiva? big box, but all SQL, where you get loud sq all teh way. cant beat that for $125, with a full factory warrantee.

have you thought about JL? they make a myriad of wonderful subs that ahve a good mix of SPL and SQ, the w6 has very decent SQ, and can be had for $160 at shops down in SoCal, i dunno what the going rate is elsewhere......

but there isnt really a REASON to stick with 100% rf, is there? think about what mowhawk would say about brand loyalty!

I would consider something other than RF subs if you are putting together a SQ system, if SPL is more your thing then no problem. There is nothing wrong with RF amps, several World champions have run with them.

Hey SQ...World Chanmpions in the SPLM department yeah..... in the SQ department..holy moly..tru finding one guy running RF subs in Finals.... If I was you... The 3 main subs to look into are Audiomobile Mass, IDMAX's, and Adire Adusio Shiva's.. all will gove you good SPL numbers but SQ is paramount in all of them...they will all sound more than awesome in the right enclosure..

Cheers

RF amps were good 5 years ago. now they dont put any money into making good amps anymore, they are all way ovverrated and i dont trust teh preamp components they make them with.

when we had the choice between RF and sony xplod to get an amp for his fanatic P components, we chose the sony Xplod, cause it sounded better. (he wanted an all best buy system)

but anyways, if you cna get a good deal on RF amps, and you need like a 400 watt amp, you can get the 500 watt amp, it'll do what you want it to. (just an example, i dont know how much they are ovverrated exactly)

of course, if you need 200 watts of power, you can get a BOSS 3000 watt amp and youll get teh same power...

my vote is to look for something better, cause theres better stuff out there cheaper.

if you got 360 watts at 4 ohms, a GREAT sub for you would be a shiva. they cost $125 shipped from www.ampman.com, and sound great in teh 300-500 watts of power range (ppl will say 500 is too much, i kinda agree)

a cheap woofer, 8 ohm DVC, so you ge tyour 4 ohm load, and it was born of a home theater driver, so you are getting a fantastic SQ woofer, as well as somthing that can punch it when its neccesary.

the only drawback (i guess there are two ;p) is that as a home theater woofer, its very efficient. this means youll need a prety hefty box! your looking at about 2 cubes (2.3 total for a Q of .7) for that driver, some ppl dont wanna give up that kinda space. thats sealed by the way. ported yoru looking at over 4 cubes, teh driver sounds great ported, but the one i put in my friends mustang sounds awesome with 2.4 sealed.

the other disadvantage is you got a fugly woofer
