New System

I'm lookin' to get a new system. I'm getting rid of the weak 12 inch Boston G1 sub i've had for the past couple of years, and am looking for 2 12's. I've got my eyes set on JL w1's right now. I'm on a budget, so i'm not looking to spend over 250 for the subs themselves. From what i've seen and heard, these things kick for their size. Any input?

Re: New System

Well if you are looking for something that just slams and sounds good, then i'd personally recommend an alpine type r. Aboslutely sick! My 1 alpine type r sounds as good and louder then my friends 2 w1s. And if you want 2 subs, the type r is only 120 a piece offer ebay new.

Re: New System

I'm tempted, but I kinda wanna go back to 2 12's - though a 500 watt rms sub is tempting... Also, I'm going more for tight bass, and sound quality. Don't get me wrong, I want em' to hit hard! I just wanna still be able to enjoy my music without the bass takin' over.

Re: New System

I've had Insignia (Best Buy's brand), Pioneer, and Boston subs. They all hit good and loud, but i'm gettin tired of just loud. I want my bass to sound good. Everyone i've talked to who's owned JL's say they've been very pleased with em'. A guy at a local audio store let me listen to some 12 inch W1's, pushin em' with about 200 watts a piece (rated 150 rms) which hit a lot harder than I expected. He also said JL underrates their subs, and you can juice em' with about 50 more watts than the listed RMS. I'm on a pretty tight "college student" budget, so unless someone really unconvinces me, i'm set on JL! (Feel free to unconvince me! )

I think 2 type R's would do your system some justice! I've heard some sketchy stuff about sony tho... how do you like your amp?

Re: New System

yea ill say that sony subs arnt really wut they say the amp itself is rated at 1200watts and the subs at 1000 each so thts 2000 and like i said b4 i have the amp tuned down the gain is very low and very little bass boost and anythig higher than 3/4 volume the subs start to choke...its horrible..i kno even ONE type r could probably handle everything from this amp wich i will say for the price sony amps are incredible first few months i never overheated or anything only time it would die on me would b because my connection got loose

one thing though when i had the amp tuned up high idk if its the ohms from the speakers or something but it would "BURP" whn i turned off my radio...any way to fix this? i heard tht some amps come with wat is called a delayed turn off wich the amp stays on for few seconds after radio is turned off to release w/e power was left in so it doesnt go to the subs n burp lol....i heard there was a way to put a resister or something in my amp to fix it..but idk..is it just the subs?

It just depends on what you buy. Pioneer and Alpine are both good products. Pioneer has a 12 inch premier sub rated at 1000 watts rms, and 3000 peak - obviously more kick than a type r. Personally tho, if I could get my hand on two type R's, i'd prolly go that route. I used to have 2 pioneer 10's that kicked pretty good tho... even tho the amp I had didn't do em' justice. So... I guess you could go either way.

I don't know if my ride could withstand the abuse that an 18" solo baric would unleash upon it!

Re: New System

yea idk i was thinkin more towards type R n at one point i was obsessing for a TYPE X but my amp would not power it well enoughso im guessin ill stick wit R but thing is i was thinkin having 2 in diff enclosures..one in a sealed..and one in a ported enclosure..so i can get benefits of both boxes..question is..would they interfere wit each other? or just blend? if not thn basically idc bout vocals i just want bass that sets off every alarm n wakes every neighbor on the block..idc bout clarity right now whn i invest more into a full overhaul ill fix er up right now i just wanna b loud n annoying..id get that slolbaric if i wouldnt kill my electricals

ooo on tht note..my sony system killed my battery...lol

but on tht note..is there any diff between altima yellow tops and duralast gold?....durlast seem to have few more amps but like altima's have that DEEP CYCLE system..n lady at autozone said they are made from a gel not liquid inside....anyone kno bout this? i wanna get one but idk wut to get...duralast is cheaper..but is it worth to pay for altima

I'd just go with the cheaper battery and buy a capacitor if you don't have one. If you're lights are dimming, or you notice your battery and other parts of the car losing power, you def. need a capacitor.
