Rep Power: 0 06 Civic and 18's... slow me down?
Hi, I'm thinking of putting 225/45Z/R18 on my 06 Civic DX. My mechanic tells me the car is going to be considerably slower at take off and it'll put stress on the car . Anyone have any experience / advise?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: 06 Civic and 18's... slow me down?
Short answer is yes.
Double the weight of stock wheels and tires---laws of inertia apply here
Tires are larger circumference than stock (78.5" vs. 81.6"), that changes the effective gear ratio
Changes calculated speed
Changes calculated mileage
Adds speedometer error
Aerodynamically worse than stock wheels
Rolling resistance is greater
Stress? Questionable. Depends mostly on the wheel offset IMO.
Yes, your mechanic is right about a lot here, but unless you drive ballz out you probably wouldn't notice a huge performance change in acceleration.....but maybe a big difference in gas mileage.
I just put 18x8 with 225/40/18 on my 12 Civic. I drive like a grandpa most of the time, so I don't notice any big diff in acceleration. Mileage seems to have dropped quite a bit though.
