d16y7 Auto to 5 speed S-20?

Hello 6th Gen,
Today I had my plan to have a b20 swapped into the 4 door shot to pieces (can we swear on here?) Had an emailed returned saying "its not a legal swap (CA emissions) and it comes from a "high GVW" and cannot be put into a lower GVW vehicle." Instead of arguing with him about how its possible etc I thought budget wise and time (not having car possibly) wise I should just build what I have unless I come across a dirt cheap b18 etc...

So here is what I have sitting in my garage from october. had planned on a z6 head with 5 speed swap from a 95 si..sold the head and left the tranny in the corner.. Took a look at it today googled the numbers on it wiped it down etc. Can anyone tell me anything else about this transmission..yes i know its missing throwout bearing etc etc. but money wise would this 5 speed bolt directly to a y7 bottom? Of course with some modification i would think it could? As it stands right now I'm toying with the idea of ordering a rebuilt z6 head, check the block/ new internals maybe and call it good..Need any input or something...Its one of those days where I have no idea what i want with this car anymore haha. some pictures of transmission below:

Numbers on Transmission s20- xxxxx y4f p20 and B0000 (si?)

Alright it is a D series that I'm positive. Ive searched around and s20 is from 92-95 models..the B0000 stamp identifies it as either ex/si..

so now i guess my questions are 1) will it bolt up to my 00' d16y7 (replacing auto) and 2 besides the obvious missing clutch flywheel and throw-out bearing I have no idea what other pieces are missing...haynes doesn't break the transmission down that far piece by piece

Re: d16y7 Auto to 5 speed S-20?

It should bolt up, all the d series have the same bellhousing pattern if I remember correctly.

You will need; flywheel + bolts, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, slave cylinder, master cylinder + lines, pedal assembly from a manual car, ecu that will match the engine and trasmission type, wiring harness for the same, shifter + shifter rods, mounts, axles. And possibly some other things that I cant remember at the moment.
Your best bet would be to either buy a manual parts car, or find a good you pull scrapyard near you.

And in all honestly you might be better off selling that tranny and finding a y7/y8 tranny, either in your parts car or elsewhere. that way you know it fits for sure

Re: d16y7 Auto to 5 speed S-20?

Hey thanks for the info. I am actually pretty lucky I love about 20mim from a giant pick n pull in northern California where the civics are endless....some parts obviously I want new (clutch, flywheel etc)...now if I can find a decent breakdown of that transmission (majestic Honda exploded code view of each bolt washer etc I could get this started...or at least gather it all up drop it at the shop...dont trust myself with the clutch pedal

Re: d16y7 Auto to 5 speed S-20?

No problem. The hardest part of doing the swap would be bleeding the clutch fluid. The rest of it is all remove and replace, make sure you have a decent torque wrench and some 12 point sockets. Maybe check with the junkyard and see how much it would cost for all the parts, depending on their prices it might be better to buy a parts car for $200-$300 and then you can sell/scrap the parts you dont use and get some of your money back
