Rough Shifting

Hi everybody, I'm new to the site. I just bought a 2001 Civic sedan LX 5spd about a month ago.The car only has 119,000 on it and was maintained pretty well. First couple weeks were great driving it. But about a week ago, i noticed some type of notchiness when i shift, sometimes its smooth, but most of the time 1st, 2nd, and 3rd feel like they a little extra effort to get into gear and other times it feels like they catch the gear and actually get pulled into position. My question is, what could possibly be causing this? The reason i bought the car was because the truck i had before this had a synchronizer problem, and now it just seems like im dealing with the same thing again. Any feedback would be helpful, thanks.

Re: Rough Shifting

If you want the car to shift REAL smooth. Find yourself some GM Synchromesh and put it in there

I've heard good things about Amsoil MTF. From Amsoil's site, it works in place of Honda MTF

Re: Rough Shifting

use the honda trans fluid first off its like water compared to normal man tras fluid. and cheack you trans mounts i fixed mine and it was night and day. no wheel hop, smoother shifting and more power off the line. look them over the one right under your radiator. there are 2 torque mounts.

Re: Rough Shifting

Re: Rough Shifting

Basically, 1st gear has no syncro so you might have trouble getting it into the gear if you have any kind of a roll going. So even if your going 3mph you will have a hard time getting it into first gear. Are you rolling when your trying? Second gear has a syncro so you should have no problem getting it in.

Do a drain and fill again and see if it helps, unless you did it a couple times already.

Re: Rough Shifting

just changed the fluids yesturday, noticed a huge difference, and yeah i did notice that im slightly rolling when i try to put it in first, and thats when it happens, but also 2nd gear will either slide into gear fine, or it will pop and you can hear it on the outside of the car. Sorry if that isnt enough information, i suck at explaining stuff haha
