10k too much for a 2006 LX?
I'm seriously looking at a 2006 LX Sedan with only 69,000 miles on it. It has a few paint dings and only one door dent. It will need the headlights replaced because I want them pristine but, other than that, the car is in great shape so long as they can get the dog smell out of the interior with the Ozone deodorizer.
However, I've insisted to the salesman that $10k is too much and that the high end of true market value is well under that. I aiming to get this vehicle for around $7500. Is that nuts or do you think it's reasonable?
I'm willing to walk away if he won't get the price under $8k.

He said "Where are you getting that number?"
I said, "Edmunds."
He said "Well, the banks are all that matter. They won't allow me to overprice the vehicle."
I'm thinking, whether I will buy it or not is what matters.
Car Gurus - $8,686
Edmunds - $7,189
Kelly Blue Book - $7,333
NADA Guides - $7950
AutoBlog - $8221
Vehicle History (Using Edmunds) - $5397
Mean Dealer Price of True Market Value = $7463
Trimmed Mean Price of TMV = $7673

I just checked it out very quickly yesterday but I'll be going back Friday for a more thorough view, test drive and to discuss the Maintenance History . I told him I'd come back if he gets it detailed(It had just arrived on the lot and had not been cleaned). The engine looked good while running - Low noise and no apparent leaks, but I have not checked the fluids yet. Tires were near new.

Add 7K and get you a new FIT

$7000 by an owner. Good luck with a dealer. $8000 is surely fair. Doubt dog is coming out. Just covered up. I am getting ready to give up on a new Honda. Consumer rates the Toyota way better now and my Honda dealer adds $2000 above new window sticker. Have purchased 3 new and 1 used cars from him. Probably my last. Cain't even trust him with my cars. However, the same with my Toyota dealer.

Assuming everything checks out with the car (mechanic inspection, maintenence records) pull out $7500 cash and see if they will take it. If not remind yourself it just a POS used car salesman who's job it is to shake you down for all the money they can get. If they refuse the $7500 and can't find anybody else that will pay more then they will probably call you back about buying it. You say sure but I've spent $500 of that money in the meantime so how about $7000. If you can't come to a deal then take the $7500 and buy private for way better value for your dollar.

He claims there is also $299 in fees and he damn sure wanted me to make a deal right that moment. But I walked out and told him if it sells while I'm gone, so be it. Now I'm thinking I might go for it if he rolls the $299 into the $7500 price. It's going to need some touch up to the body so he can eat the fees as far as I'm concerned.

Funny you should say that because I got him to $7500. I test drove it and checked the car thoroughly. I'm not a mechanic but I pushed it pretty good and found nothing wrong with alignment, engine noise, suspension or otherwise. Engine was clean but didn't look "Cleaned." I drove it for 15 minutes then sat in the parking lot, with the engine off, looking for issues like drips or smells. I found no problems.

Nice looking car for that price. Make sure the tint is legal and forget the touch up. Drive it and don't let it make a slave of you. My thought is if the chip it to bare metal and small, I use a Honda touch up but I put a couple drops on a mason lid and use the end of a tooth pick to deposit just enough paint to fill the nick up the the edge. Maybe, just a small convex. When it dries, it will level and hardly show. Never done it? Practice on a lid! Never ever get it out past good paint.

Try just using car polish and/or something like scratchX first and see if it hides it. Silver is an easy colour to hide flaws. Mine has similar stuff on it and I basically just keep it waxed every 3 months.

Most private sellers will drop price because cash is tempting.

Re: 10k too much for a 2006 LX?
just for your reference i just bought a 2008 sedan lx with 93000 for $7300. the car is in excellent shape. i looked at a few 06's and they were in the $5000-5500 range
you can get a 2008 + accord with around 100k for 10 grand. that car is way overpriced.
