So this may sound a little crazy but my 2012 Honda Civic got thrown into Park while driving at about 45 mph. It did not do anything, except act like it was in neutral so I put it back in drive and went about my day, but when I got home my Key would not come out of the ignition unless I unplugged the battery. I also noticed the button on my shifter does not have tension on it anymore. It drives perfectly fine, everything is fine other than the fact I have to unplug my battery to get my key out and the shifter button not having any tension.
Anyone have an idea as to what is wrong and how to fix it?

Take the shifter apart(the handle) and see if it is broken, the linkage for the button could have broke.. Its not hard to take apart.. (if the button has no tension are you able to shift without pressing it?)
You do have a key release, just stick another key or something like that in the slot by the shifter.
First you need to pry off the black piece around the trigger. Insert a trim tool and pry slowly to the front of the car. One side will pop then do the other side. Its attached on the bottom into a screw head and into the silver piece below. Lift and pull up to remove.
Then slide down the silver collar to reveal the screw heads.
Remove these two screws
Now pull off the shifter and silver collar.
PICS not working atm... but this is the general idea.. the DIY section might have a write up if not i will put one up soon... it will be 8th gen but its the same thing really..

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
