Ok yall i finally got $4,500 saved up and i was wanting to put a SF turbo in my car but i thoguht, what the hell. I want a K20, so i need some help on finding one for about $4,000 so if anyone has some places to find a good price lemme know b/c i am ready todo the deed finally!!!!!

4bangin 10-09-2003 02:38 PM

good luck doing the swap for 4500 man. it will be more than that. you should just go turbo.

mcwoowoo 10-09-2003 02:43 PM

$4500 won't be enough for a swap
i'm currently doing a K20a2 swap, but it's getting much much expensive, i got the engine for $3500, but the rest of the small parts all cost alot, such as the hasport engine mounts ($650), hondata ecu flash ($700) and etc. trust me it's gonna be over more than $4500 after you finish the swap

curbsquirrel 10-09-2003 02:47 PM

he's right. your gonna spend alot. go turbo

IMURMILK 10-09-2003 02:48 PM

turbo then 50 shot

deciuss 10-09-2003 03:42 PM

ya 4.5 grand is a little low i talked to a shop by me and they said 8k for the rsx type s swap but for me its worth it but to others its not

mad03civic 10-09-2003 05:46 PM

ok well my uncle owns his own shop so installing it doesn't cost anything but the only thing he can't get is the motor itself, the other things i am not worried about, i can get them all at wholesale

OsOBooSTeD 10-09-2003 06:04 PM

yea i dont care how whole sale u get..

engine is gonna be 3500 atleast...
650 for mounts... You AINT getting a discount for them
and normal price for the rest of the parts.... throttle cable, shift linkages, subframe, radiator, custom AC lines, Custom Fuel lines, ETC, ETC......... your 4500 spending limit just shot to 7k

mad03civic 10-09-2003 06:06 PM

well i will make sure and post all ther receipts after i buy everything

mad03civic 10-09-2003 06:08 PM

the only thing i wanna know is where to buy the damn motor at, NOTHING ELSE

OsOBooSTeD 10-09-2003 06:21 PM

Sit tight and save your cash. As of right now, you WILL need a little more than $4500. How much more depends on the deals you get. You need an entire shopping list of parts. Come up with this list first. Then make a price list. Then with this total specific price in mind, you can save the remainder of the money. At this point begin your shopping with the small stuff first and the motor LAST. The prices on the type-s motor are falling more and more everyday. In just the last six months it has fallen thousands of dollars. So, if it takes a while to get all of the stuff together and the motor is last you will get it for the best price. You would really hate it if you bought the motor today for roughly $4000 and before it's even installed you start seeing better prices on it. That's the way I'd do it, good luck. ;)

Catalyst 10-10-2003 12:05 AM

damn, i work at a fabrication shop.... I will make my own motor mounts, make my own k-member, make all my own damn stuff. And i bet you it would still cost me over $4500.

I would LOVE the K20 swap (cuz i would turbo it), but i just dont have the $$$.

Just go Stage II turbo and blow the K20A's away

Elite 10-10-2003 01:52 AM

I got my manual tranny act clutch & flywheel wiring harness, ecu, master shift cylinder, shift linkage, shifter assembly, pedal assembly, all for under $1500, which I think is pretty good im going turbo so yeah, im getting rid of my auto :) going to a shop in long beach that will charge like 300 for labor. My tranny is about to go anyways so why not :) btw its a 6 puck clutch what the hell is that, the guy just told me its a good one.

Catalyst 10-10-2003 02:33 AM

a 6 puck clutch means that it is more like an "on-off" switch. I had an ACT flywheel, xtreme pressure plate, and 6 puck clutch, and it chattered, banged, and wasnt very streetable (even though i put about 10,000 miles on it).

If it is a Sprung 6 puck (meaning that it has springs in it) it will be a nice, streetable clutch. But it will still chatter.

Elite 10-10-2003 03:19 AM

what do you mean chatter? you mean it wont be smooth and you can hear the clutch?

Elite 10-10-2003 03:20 AM

on my friends civic I dont know what clutch he has but it sounds like brake rotors lmao, i repeatedly tell him he needs to change his brakes, because I dont know anything about manual trannsmissions. LMAO and he told me thats his clutch.

mad03civic 10-10-2003 08:25 AM

Well how do i go about getting a "shopping list
for everything i need, like how do i know exactly what i will need and what i won't need???

It takes a little elbow grease ;) aka research. I guess one of the members here could just hand you all of thier hard work, but I doubt it. Use the search button and scour this site for talk of the K20, K20 swap, engine swap, etc. Then READ till your eyes hurt. At that point you'll have a pretty good idea of what direction you need to head.

Catalyst 10-10-2003 11:11 PM

I believe that there is a DIY for the K20 install.

And clutch chatter sounds like banging and feels like it grabs, then grabbs again, then grabbs again.

It sounds like banging? really that must be a real head turner when you drive by groups of people ;)

Catalyst 10-12-2003 12:09 AM

banging is more what it feels like.

NoBottleJustThrottle 10-12-2003 05:42 PM

i might be selling my swapped car. I got wrecked last night by a drunk driver. Had it runnin for about 4 weeks too. I would be selling th car with everything though...probably around 10 grand for everything. Thats working motor, all the little stuff you need, tranny, wire harness modification done, CAI, rims, headlights, short shifter, grill, TEINs everything. the rear end was hit hard, so the motor is still cherry. Still not sure if thats what im gonna do, but i might be...something to think about.

icebergslim 10-12-2003 07:13 PM

Damn that sucks that you got rear ended. At least the motor is still good. :(
