Getting rid of the civic
 

Well guys i regret to inform you all i am getting rid of the civic and going to get a 1998 chevy truck it needs some tlc but i am about to be going to college here in town so there for i am going part time at work and wont be able to keep up the payments but my mom is takeing over the payments for me and giveing me a thousand for a down payment on the truck i saw it and fell in love ill get it the monday after this comeing up monday so yay for me so my car will still be in the family lol

Congrats on the truck. Just hope that the cost of gas in the truck doesn't offset the payments. I remember when I was a college student I could barely afford anything. Good Luck.

lol ^^ yea gas will be a bitch but 200 a month isnt bad eaither i will just drive the civic when i am out playing lol ill still have access to it so its all good but i have allways wanted a chevy anyways alot more power just cant play in it like the little civic lol i still love the civic so its all good i cant wait to get it im gonna take the guy 500 this monday then the rest next monday and all i have to carry is liability on it but will probably get full coverage for the hell out of it my insurance was cheap before it shouldnt be to bad though its a 1998 chevy with a v6 vortec it needs some tlc but nothing i cant handle that and chevy parts are cheap

Wait!!!! If that's the 4.3L V6 its a piece of shit! I have on in my wife's 2000 Blazer (had the truck for 6 years now) and you won't like it! I have to go to work but I will type a lengthier explanation when I get home. GIve me 4-5 hours (its a half-day today) to at least hear me out!

good luck with the trucks. Usually domestic trucks are pretty reliable. I'm more a diesel fan for trucks though.

c'mon.. the Civic will be your better bet and you will have no regrets about it. Civics are very fun to drive too. You're not gonna like driving that truck cos the ride is too choppy. Don't get rid of that civic!!

OK. My POS 2000 Chevy Blazer with the 4.3L Vortec V6 engine.

Bought in 2001 with 14K on the clock, it has 107K on it now. Things I've replaced that I shouldn't have had to.

Oil cooler lines. Mine is a 4x4 so yours may not have the relocated oil filter. But the crappy A/C style pressed aluminum-to-rubber lines leaked like sieves from 20K miles.

Can't get to #5 spark plug without either dropping the steering linkage or buying the special $90 GM tool. **** that. Its staying in there.

Goes through brakes like nobody's business. Yes, I know its big and heavy, but rotors and pads every year gets old after a while.

Rear main seal started leaking at 80K. Water pump went out at 80K.

Gas mileage is down from 18MPG to maybe 12MPG. I have no idea why. The only code I throw for a CEL is related to my leaky gas cap, but I've been getting piss poor gas mileage for 2 years now, and the CEL started 2 months ago.

Multi-function switch went (blinkers, cruise, wipers stalk). $400 later (just the part, I replaced it myself) and my brake lights, hazards and turn signals work again.

Have to replace the hinge pins on both front doors because they started sagging.

Neither power rear windows go up from their individual controls, only down. I have to raise them back up from driver's control unit.

Every once in a while I start it, it runs like shit, throws a CEL and then 3 minutes later its fine and the CEL goes away. This makes me nervous because I don't know why its doing this.

Now I take immaculate care of my vehicles. I'm on top of changing out the fluids, constantly watch everything to make sure its squared away. I hate that Blazer and can't wait to get rid of it when we leave here. Its paid off as of last year, so if it dies, then it dies. But it shouldn't.

The good news is that I have not had any catastrophic issues. Tranny has been fine for the most part, no knocking in the engine, and the idle is still smooth. I need to replace the belt tensioner because it squeaks.

All in all, I really am not impressed with the truck and you would be much better off with your Honda. This is just my experience, but I wanted you to know it. I will never buy a domestic vehicle again.

Ugh I had my dad's truck for a week to move my Sh*t out of my condo and I was DYING to get my civic back to do some cornering, and some ACTUAL driving:_doh:

Trucks are only useful for working with imo:shrug:

I think your going to actually end up spending more money with the truck then you would making the payments on the civic. I hope it works out for you though. I know what its like to be in school and have to make payments!! I'm curious as to how much your payments are though? mine is only 180 a month.
