Re: Smoked taillights

i had that. it lasted like 3 days before it started to peel/bubble. spray tint like VHT night shades is the way to go from what i hear

Re: Smoked taillights

We used Night Shade to tint my lights it turned out REALLY good! When using it instead of tint you can choose how dark to go! If its not dark enough the first time then put another coat on, thats what we did!

So i guess everyone pretty much had good experiences with painting them lol.... do you guys have any brands of paint specifically to use? oh and after its painted is there any way of taking it off if you get tired of it?

sandpaper...best off buying new tails if you end up not liking it...or trading for someone who does...

Re: Smoked taillights

wat kind of clear coat did u guys use????? poly, acrylic, and brand if u dont mnd

Vane_Civic02 06-22-2007 07:33 PM

Re: Smoked taillights

I actually didnt use any clear coat, i had forgotten to buy when i was buying the black paint and after i was done spraying them they didnt look bad with out it at all, i was really pissed when i realized i had forgotten the clear coat but honestly everyone really likes how it came out without the clear coat so now im not even sure i want to go over it with the clear coat now. But i was goin to go with some type of acrylic paint i dont really know which brand would be better though sorry. ill let u know if i do go ahead and do it this weekend.

ssgmolina 06-22-2007 11:49 PM

Re: Smoked taillights

i feel u... but IMO i think you should put some kind of clear cause of weather so that they can last but again that my opinion

Re: Smoked taillights

we used an acrylic clear on my tails, dont remember the brand though.

First we cleaned the lights, then scuffed them up so the paint would stick. Then we used the Night shade transparent black paint to paint them. Applied that untill i got them as dark as i wanted. Then after it dried, we pur a few coats of clear on it. Then after he clear dried we used rubbing compound on them and waxed them. I LOVE them. Mine are kinda dark tho, harder to see the brake lights during the day but they look GREAT!!! Hopes this helps!

ssgmolina 06-23-2007 02:41 AM

Re: Smoked taillights

yea it did ummm.... mines are looking rough guess gonna trying the rubbing compound and wax to see if it works out for me.. oh on my first coat of clear gonna wait till morning to do a wet sand before i put on second coat

Vane_Civic02 06-23-2007 09:41 AM

Re: Smoked taillights

U guys convinced me lol i think im going out to buy the clear coat today. thanks guys

Re: Smoked taillights

Clear Coat FTW.

Jutty 06-23-2007 04:47 PM

Re: Smoked taillights

i have heard wet sanding before the clear coat will give it a shinier look as well...

ssgmolina 06-23-2007 06:57 PM

Re: Smoked taillights

yea i did give it a wet sand before clear coat... but mines are not coming out so glossy... maybe after i use rubbing compound and wax them they'll come out better

2DoorVic 06-24-2007 01:08 AM

Re: Smoked taillights

Yeah the compound and wax should get them how you want them to look!
