doin it myself.

ok so, in light of me NOT finding any shops around my town to paint my engine bay parts, ive decided to just to the damn thing myself.
i was thinking silver to match the outside BUT i am willing to listen to suggestions.
some stuff includes the plug cover, brake fluid cap, clutch cap, battery tie down, and the hood pole.
i want silver but not SSM cause its too much for the can. i have some paint left over from the eyelids but idk how much.
any tips or advice? maybe i could DIY it and post pics.

boricua_civic 01-09-2006 05:13 PM

how about pink :giggle:, Charcoal Gray would look tight.

LowSky 01-09-2006 05:43 PM

how about gunmetal

CivicsRdBest 01-09-2006 05:49 PM

You can go big or you can go home, I don't really care what color, as long as you don't go chrome!

Do silver accents, don't make EVERYTHING silver, that'll look retarded...

MajinB 01-09-2006 05:51 PM

well im looking for spray paint i can get at advanced auto parts or something. it wont be ALL one color. i plan on getting an engine dress kit to match whatever the color is. it WILL NOT BE CHROME.
whats the difference between silver accents and everything silver?

CivicsRdBest 01-09-2006 06:16 PM

Accents put emphasis on different things, big things, unique things. Once you pop open the hood, you want untrained eyes to focus on things that aren't normally there or just different from stock.

MajinB 01-09-2006 06:18 PM

yea thats what im lookin for.

Tragedy 01-09-2006 06:18 PM

I did it silver, pick a color and go with it. Im not too happy with 2 pieces, so I am taking my spark plug + fuse cover to be painted with the the same color paint as my car.

ragingSPAM 01-09-2006 06:28 PM

get some colormatched paint from paintscratch.com and some rustoleum clearcoat from homedepot and paint it or get some gunmetal or red caliper paint with high ceramic content and paint

gearbox 01-09-2006 06:41 PM

too ricey

gearbox 01-09-2006 07:56 PM

painting pieces different colors in general...is rice

BigMac000000000 01-09-2006 08:18 PM

i think u should do it a kinda dark blue, not like navy blue but something darker than normal blue

and paint sparingly, very few parts, i liked the idea of highlighting certain peices

white2K2EX 01-09-2006 08:25 PM

I'd go with either matching silver or gunmetal.

Or maybe red.

eyegiant 01-09-2006 08:34 PM

Don't Paint Anything In Your Engine, It's Just Too Ricer.

MajinB 01-09-2006 09:13 PM

it is NOT rice to paint the engine pieces in a tasteful way. gearbox, i can't believe you of all people would think its rice. the whole point of doing it is to keep the shit clean cause when its painted its easier. what color would gunmetal be exactly? like a dark grey or silver?
calipers are probably gonna be next after this little project of mine. im gonna get some red H emblems for the front and back and then paint the calipers red.
back to the point, i don't want rice under my hood. its not like that. its just to make it and keep it nice and CLEAN. blackbullet had his parts painted the orange to match his color. granted it was for show but still, its something i want to do for myself.

they won't be all different colors like lego pieces:lol: the point is to have it unified also.

Mutha Fn FBM 85 01-09-2006 10:38 PM

dont do it.. but if you must.. silver or gunmetal would look great.

MajinB 01-10-2006 12:27 AM

http://tamiya.com/english/products/list/spray.htm
these are my color choices kind of. i now see gunmetal and its like a mix between grey and black. aluminum would match well with the rest of the car.
im liking the light gunmetal and gunship grey. any ideas on other colors?

vietstylez 01-10-2006 12:36 AM

i agree that its rice, painted calipers are rice too. please dont do it

Mutha Fn FBM 85 01-10-2006 08:24 AM

look how beautiful our engine is why paint it..

(gearbox's engine)

either leave it like that or paint it black..:giggle:

Tragedy 01-10-2006 08:28 AM

hmm.. imo the d17 is not beautiful. Kind of puny. Drives good, but nothing worth arguing about. I will say if I owned a faster car with a bigger engine, I would probably not color the engine parts, but my civic is no sport car, and there is not an aftermarket supplier of spark plug covers in multiple styles for the d17.

MajinB 01-10-2006 10:44 AM

tragedy, post some pics of it

Tragedy 01-10-2006 01:32 PM

Majin,

Sorry I cannot post pics. The civic is back @ the body shop for re-blending of the rear bumper. Im not sure I would right now, because The paint job I did kind of faded.

I agree with gearbox, but thats just an opinion.

Do what you feel.

Yoshiemaster 01-10-2006 04:41 PM

personally, i don't think it's rice to do it. as long as you have the performance to back it up, you're good. but, i wouldn't do it, i'd just leave it how it is, but keep it all shiny and clean like i do. it looks better to me, but it's not my car man, your car your decision. i gave you my opinion so the choice is yours.

i have no problem admitting that i am RICE. YES YOSHIEMASTER IS FUHKIN RICE. YOSHIEMASTER IS SO RICE HE IS A RICE-CHEF!

i dn't have the money to do the performance mods, so i have to settle for the little things right now. i'm a junior in high school and my only sources of income are birthdays/Christmas/Iranian new year.

MajinB 01-10-2006 10:41 PM

well i guess rice is really in the eye of the beholder. o well. yea im doin it. just don't know when cause of school and work. yoshie your not rice. your shit is nice.

Yoshiemaster 01-11-2006 03:13 PM

thanks MajinB, you duh man

juzthewy 01-11-2006 04:13 PM

juzt clear coat everything. itll look like gearbox's engine bay. i swear i can eat a pudding off his valve cover

MajinB 01-11-2006 10:24 PM

ill clear coat AFTER i paint. clear coating black is a waste of my important time.

umm no its not. clear coat gives the paint depth and it makes it last a lot longer. if you dont clea coat then you will have flaking and peeling after time
