VIN # help please!!!

I am trying to do a carfax search on a car to find info on it and i am needing some help from you people.

This is for 01-05 coupe people i guess(mainly 2001 ex coupes)

My VIN reads as follows

1HGEM2***********

I am needing to find out if your coupe has those first 6 digits the same such as "1HGEM2".

I'm having trouble and think i got a wrong VIN from the company and they cant pull the VIN so i basically need to see if all the 01 ex coupes have those first 6 digits/letters.

The VIN they gave me is...

1HG1W12M259305063 : and i have entered everything possible around that and its not the correct VIN.

Thanks,
Injen

AFAIK, all 2001 EX coupes are 1HGEM2. I know mine is ...

^ well then what the hell does the vin go to on the one above? 02-05 maybe?
I am trying to get a tranny from that certain car which is supposed to be an 01 civic, do the 02-05 trannys work in an 01?

A D17 tranny is a D17 tranny. Someone around here swapped an 04 MT into his 01 because he blew a hole in the casing. :eek: You should be good to go.

injencivic 07-05-2005 05:12 PM

here is the original VIN # they gave me which has to many digits.

1HG1WW12M259305063

I would think its got to be some type of civic since the VIN starts out the same as mine( 1HG ), but the rest doesnt match up.

I have tried entering a "E" in place of the 2 to make it "WW1EM2" and tried replacing the 5's with S's single and double. I dont know, but they do have a 30 day garuantee on the tranny no matter what happens, whether it wont fit or wont work for $650.00 and thats the cheapest i have found compared to $900

right well thats the engine code and the chasis code is EM2, and thats what i should worry about really i guess?

but like you said a D17 is a D17, but what about D17A2? well i guess it would matter if its vtec or not since they should all use the same tranny system regaurdless of vtec correct?

that's definitely not a proper VIN# for a 7th gen civic...i'll tell you that much.

taz757 07-05-2005 05:17 PM

I think the trannies are a little different. The EX has just a little be longer gears, as compared to the DX/LX. But that's for the MTs. I'm not too sure how it'd work for an AT ...

+ MPV:
# 52=4 door wagon (4x2 & 4x4)
# 62=4 door van
# 28=4 door van (FF)
* The 2 may be engine code. We're not certain.
* The 2 is a check digit
* The L is model year (L=`90, M=91, N=92, P=93, etc...)
* The 0 is the plant number (0=Hiroshima, 1=Hofu)
o 1=Hofu
o 5=Flat Rock
o T=Edison
* The 100014 is the car number, reset to 100000 and the first car of that year will be 100001.
Or, you can try out Matt Bennett's VIN Decoder.

It's for a Miata, but it should help, nonetheless.

yeah, any '01-'05 civic coupe should read 1HGEM2...

injencivic 07-05-2005 05:23 PM

hmmm, well wonder what the proper VIN would be for a 01 coupe or for that matter and 02-05 coupe ex?

thanks for the help... all i can think of is that the company that wrote the VIN down has somehow messed up the vin number, cause it starts out with 1HG as all of the honda manufactured cars do, the only thing thats messed up is where the EM2 should be located.
