Whats the primary reduction mean and how do you figure it? |
^^ i know they replace them but stock i thought it was around 3.53 or sumthin |
stock stang is 3.27 i believe. the most common aftermarket are 3.73 and 4.10. the primary reduction gear is what connects to two drive shafts together. since the engine if mid engine, RWD, that means the drive shaft must go from the front where the engine is, to the rear where the wheels are. if the driveshaft was all one piece, the vibration alone could shatter/crack the drive shaft because of its length. one way to fix this is to have a carbon fiber drive shaft (like the 350Z) or to use two drive shafts, with a primary reduction gear connecting the two. the obvious benefit of this is less expensive, and the primary reduction gear also multiplies the torque. since the primary reduction gear is after the tranny, it affects every gear, just as the final drive gear does. |
