What Size Rims To Get?
 

Stock 05 Ex Coupe.......What the best size rims to get if your lowering the car so it does not rub? 17's? Will it rub?.....Will 18's rub if not lowering the car?

it depends on how low you'll go. I'd say keep them small so they don't hinder acceleration or make the ride incredibly stiff, but if you're going for looks 18's are great.

Hi, I have 18" DUB Remix on my civic. It's lowered 1.4" with no rubbing.

I got 17's with a 2" drop and no rubbing.

so whats a good width? 7.5?

its actually more of the tire width that you have to look for. i've got 17's with a tire size of 215/40. dropped with no finger gap, and no rubbing.

i'd reccommend 18's. it wont rub depending on how low you drop your car and what size tires you get. my car is dropped 2.5 inches, and i have 18's with 225/35/18 tires and it just clears it.

18s with 215/35/18 wouldnt rub. I had a 1.5" drop, doesnt rub. Yeah 7.52 width should be good. They will affect your acceleration, but look great. Also if you use a tire as thin as 215/35 then your ride will be stiff as hell, you will feel almost every bump on the road

you should look at this several ways when deciding on what size rims to get! One 17's weight less than 18's and thats the last thing you want to do is make these tractors go even slower than they already do! Two 17's are smaller in diameter so that means you will be able to lower car much more than with 18's! About the only benefit that 18's have is that they look much better because they are obviously bigger! Now with certain profile tires you may experience rubbing with 18's! For example, i had 225/40 18's with stock springs and did have rubbing problems but only when i made hard u-turns! Thats not to say that yours will do the same thing! Everyone's car is just a little different! If you do decide to get 18's i would reccomend the 215/35 18's so that you have a slimmer chance of rubbing but that is just my opinion! i think the diameter of the tire is what causes most rubbing issues with our civics! Not a whole lot of 18's come in 7" width! thats where 17's become the better choice! now with thinner 18's you will be able to lower it just a tad more than with thicker 18" tires! But keep in mind that with thinner tires your rims will be toast if some potholes decide to come your way!

I used Eibach Sportline 1.4" springs. I'm getting ready to put my body-kit on. I'll post more pic's soon.

I suggest you to go with 17" inch wheels, it's more practical and still look nice :) To be sure whether it would rub or not depends on many factors such as the series of the tires, the width of the rims and the offset of the wheels. I use to put on a set of 17" * 7" wheels with 215/45/17 tires and +38 offset, it doesn't rub even with 4 passengers (lowering with Koni shcoks and Tanabe DF210 springs) :rofl:

I love my 17s. I was gonna upgrade to 18s, but I will be changing color rims, with 17s. They ride good, they look good (needer a larger profile tire). You would be happy with 17s. Get a 205or215?/45/17 tire though. I have 40s and just needs to be a littler bigger. I am lowered about 2"s and I have never rubbed once. I have taken some speed bumps pretty hard when I didnt notice/see them.

I have 205/40/17 (17s) with goldline lowering springs, they save 1.75" drop, but I am about 2"+. From what I measured before and after (about 4 times each). I also have tokico HPs (blues). They make the suspension much stiffer, so you dont bounce around or blow your shocks.

Was slammed this past summer over 2", on 205/40ZR17 rubber (Kumho, bleh) 17x7 rim, I think the offset was 42, I forget. Never rubbed once, rear was tucked and front had 0 gap.

I got 15" SSR rims and im tucked on each tire, my car is real low

tein s tech and some nice 16" with 205-50-16 tires

Don't be stupid. Weigh your current rims with the tires with the correct air pressure, then buy any rim & tire combo that weighs less than stock. Your car won't need to work as hard to accelerate and brake.

Idiots out there getting 17s and 18s (read: heavier) are for show, and will be slower than stock.

Pay attention to unsprung weight. Always shoot for lighter.

no more post? come on now i need help with picking out 18's or 17's and 7.5's..... 7's? Whats the best combination if not lowering it right now but might in the near future? If i do lower it can't u get the rims skinny enough to slide up in the fender well if i was to say hit a POT HOLE?
