brake rotor rust removel This may or may not be a lame question but is there anyway to remove the rust off a rotor without messing things up.. or is that just something I'll have to replace if I want it to look good??? |
Hey bud... Can remove rust temporarily with a wire brush or steel wool...but once you run it in the rain again a few times, it will be right back to the way it was...the stock brakes suck, just gather a lil money and get some cross-drilled or slotted rotors...worth the money and they won't rust! 2Hottie |
I don't know about the no rust aftermarket rotors. I had a set of Brenbo cross drilled slotted rotors on my last Civic Si and they rusted worse than the stock rotors. I hated them. I know there are some highend rotors out there that are coated that might not rust though. |
i thought brembo is a hign end product |
Brembos are high-end brake rotors, but if you dont zinc coat them they will still rust. I didnt zinc coat mine and they look like a$$. So I just went ahead and got AEM Rotors instead cuz I couldnt bear looking at the rust. SO be sure to zinc coat ur rotors. |
Yeah, for sure, the Zinc coated ones won't rust...my buddy has cross-drilled Power Slot rotors on his Altima, and thru tons of washings and rain storms, no rust!!! 2Hottie |
oh that settled the rust issue then,i saw a article on 4 after market brake kits in the august/september "sport compact car"magazine, the brembo is about close to $3 grands,i may need to swap performance brake pad first cus i dont have the green. sorry that was the Car and Driver september issue..www.brembo.com,www.stoptech.com,www.tirerac k.com tirerack sells both Prodrive brake kit and just Hawk HP Plus pads |
Yeah, that is what I am doing, getting the greens and maybe the Power Stop or Neuspeed cross-drilled rotors... 2Hottie |
So where can you get this zinc coat? |
I just painted my drums/rotors/calipers with high temp epoxy engine paint. Looks MUCH better now. I used low gloss black paint, I'm not after the flashy caliper/drum look. To tell the truth, I want to draw the least attention to my tiny brake rotors and rear drums. :_please: |
