Screwed up lug bolt.... Can a lug bolt be re-threaded? I can't believe that transform spoilers stripped my lug bolt. they installed my springs and were the last ones to re-install my rims. Now the bolt either has to be replaced or re-threaded. |
just replace the stud...dont try to rethread it. |
make the shop replace it because its thier fault |
how difficult is it to replace the stud? |
front or rear? on the drums its very easy, just pull the drum off hit the old stud with a hammer and air gun the new one in, front yout have to take off the caliper and sometimes the disk and then air gun the stud in...stil not very hard though i do it all the time at work |
it's the front. is an air gun necessary? I don't have one. |
Front is going to be a pain in the @ss to do yourself even if you have the tools. So I recommend taking it back to the shop and make them fix it. |
i mean i know that Dsicount Tire CAN re-thread studs that are bad...just tell them... but that all i know... i work there and all! |
well the way we do it is with an air gun and a few washers, te fronts are a pain in the a$$ i would deffinately go make them do it, they messed it up just tell em that and they will fix it for you |
well its not hard if u have the right tools!! If its the front youre gonna need a slide hammer and remove the axle nut so u can pull out the hub a little till u have enough space remove the stripped stud.....In other words have the shop do it...haha |
you can also use a press to press out the hub and then the studs... but you are gonna have to take out the whole knuckle for this... i've done it many times on my old cars and friends cars... but thats only cause i have all the tools AND i have a press at home.. be best to bring back to the shop.. using a airgun is not the right way to put in new studs. its possible... but it's also possible to strip or stretch the new stud... do it right and have a machine shop press it in for you or just let the shop do it... |
well i have put in many studs with an airgun, washers, anti-seize and a lug nut and hav not stripped one new stud |
u can re-thred a stud. but just have the shop do it or make them get a new 1 and put it in... :) |
if i drive it to the shop is it going to be safe? Some highway driving involved. |
yes only one is fu@ked. On top of that the gorrilla nut is stripped inside too. so that's garbage rendering the whole set useless. |
airgun workssss... butttt ive seen ppl stretch the stud b4 and is it really worth it?!? it dont cost much to bring to machine shop to press it in.. no more then 5 bucks... i know cause i work at one!!! |
