i did read some stuff about it in this thread but still don't really get it. i took off the small nut. do i just have to hammer it out now? i've been trying that but can't get it to budge.

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

I'm having trouble finding a complete set of parts. I found a local yard that has the knuckle/hub off of an EP3, but they sold the calipers. I found another yard that has the calipers off of an 2006 RSX. Are the calipers the same?

Does anyone still have the pictures from the original post?

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

i believe the calipers are the same. My calipers are off a type s.

Vman455 09-16-2010 01:32 PM

caliper mounting bolt size?

Tried searching; no luck. Tried auto parts stores; no luck. The rear disk assembly I bought off ephatch.com doesn't have the caliper mounting bolts--does anyone know what size and thread pitch they are?

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

back from the dead, sorry for this. i have the parts for the swap, still adding my k20a. as i was installing my driver motor mount i ran into a problem with the stupid abs module being in the way. bent the bracket so i could keep it there, but got to thinking, why not delete and tuck. found out i need a dx or lx proportioning valve and lines. essentially deleting abs. now how does this do with the rear swap? i read the thread and see that mc and prop valve need changed for dx/lx owners to the ex/si model. i want to clean the bay and get rid of abs. help please.

i found this out about the mc and prop valve

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

Amazing DIY! Thank you very much for posting, I would never have attempted without reading this first. For anyone interested in doing this, the parts from an Acura 1.7 EL (Canadian) fit perfectly. The only downside is they are slightly expensive, I paid $250 for the brake assemblies, $120 for new flexible brake lines and $150 for the e-brake cables. Make sure you have your parts lined up before starting!

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

I have an 01 SI, can I use the wheel sensor and rear brake lines off this for the swap? Someone mentioned earlier it has to be 02-03 SI.

The rotors and brake pads i get for the rears, im guessing they have to be made for the hub assembly i put in? For ex, say i put in all Acura EL hub/bearing/caliper etc, do i need acura EL specific rotor and pads or can i use the same as my civic front ones?

MindBomber 09-08-2011 02:04 PM

Re: Drums--->Discs SPELLED OUT

You can't use civic front rotor and pads, you need to order EL/Ep3 specific rears.

You have an 01 EM2, the parts you need will all be off an 02-03 ep3 or 01-05 es3 (EL)

FYI, I have a set of rear 02-03 rear brakes. Knuckles and all if anyone is looking for a conversion. Will come with powerslot rotors and hawk brake pads. Just finished a five lug conversion on my ep3.

Does it mention needing rear trailing arms?

Thanks for the reply. so basically, I just need the knuckles all the way to the disc brake assembly? I look at another post/thread and another member mentioned "Arms + dust and spindles". I understand about the need of the dust and the spindles but I'm trying to figure out which "Arms" he was referring too.

Just finished my swap...

The whole thing took about 4 hours between two of us, I ran into a clogged valve and a seized cam bolt, which i had to buy from honda...they charged way too much. Not only did i swap out the brakes, but i redid my lower control arms to have factory sway bar mounts. We decided it would be easiest to take the rear suspension out as a unit, starting with the coilovers, then the bolt at the upper control arm, the brake lines, e-brake cable, and finally with the support of the oem jack underneath, the lower control arm. Once the whole assembly was out, it was just a matter of mocking it up with the new control arms, the brakes, and the shock and re-installing it all as a unit. Id recommend starting with the right side of the car first like the DIY says, this way you can attach the LCA to the car and run the e-brake cable up and then button it up to the belly of the car and then continue on with the soft brake lines and the upper control arm. I used Ep3 cables, and everything matched up perfectly except one of the brackets on the drivers side e-brake cable. All you have to do is unclamp it a little, attach the cable to the handle and move the bracket and bend it in place. Works like a charm.

cliffs:
drum brakes + me = :shrug:
disc brakes + me = :sweet:
install is straight forward, only hard part is ebrake cables (which wasnt hard at all)

Hey you didn't mention if you had to swap the proportioning valve! :rofl:
Just did the swap on my DX and the pedal position is lower than before.
I bled the brakes on all four sides and it is still a bit spongy and the pedal travels more than before the swap.
I haven't swap the master cylinder or proportioning valve, don't know if both or either of them are the cause.

I know this is a very old post, but hey if you could help, that'd be very appreciated!

Yes. It will work 100%.
I just did.
The e-brake cable is a direct bolt on, no stretching or whatsoever, same brackets matching with every bolt holes and hole pins.

That's the beauty of swapping parts from Acura 1.7 EL :rofl::rofl:

Hey I'm from Canada, Québec too! From Montreal specifically.
I just did the swap on my 04 DX from a Acura 1.7 EL and everything fits perfectly.
Aside from a little spongier pedal than before the swap, everything works great. I may have to replace the rotors and pads because they seem to be cheap after market ones.

Hey I just did the swap and I know it have been a long time and you probably already did the swap, but one thing I did to get the cam bolt out is, well first you need to get the cam nut and lock nut out of the way, screw 2 lock nuts (preferable the ones you unscrewed from the cam bolt) facing each other onto the bolt and lock them together. With that done, simply use and impact wrench and hopefully it'll separate the the rust between the bolt and the bushing sleeve and spin the cam bolt.

I'm sure you already did the swap by now. :rofl::rofl:

Hey Guys After a month's worth of searching and prep work I just finished my swap last night. Guess what guys its on a DX (canadian). Works great. It responds quickly with minimal peddal effort grips like a gator. I'll post up pics when i get back from vacation.

Just wondering how people in general with the swap have found the Parking break performace. Basically i want to know if anyone has been able to lock the wheels with such small calipers? Oh i used acura El assembly, cables and break lines. Cheap NAPA blanks and cheap semi metal kevlar pads. Yes I am cheap, not only am i canadian i was born in portugal therefore i have cheap in my blood. :2pimp:

In summary I'm generally satisfied with the everyday driving although i wish i was able to lock them with the e break though. Price total $400cdn = $380

Hey I just did the swap too! However, I seem to have air in my system because the brake pedal sinks deeper than before. I already did have some before, but now it sank a bit deeper. I have bled on all four wheels and can't seem to get all the bubbles out. No bubbles coming out, but I'm sure there's some left in the lines.

Consequently, I can't seem to have the "gator" bite you referred to.
I also swap parts from a Acura 1.7 EL. Used the old rotors and pads.

I too can't seem to lock the rear wheels with the parking brake, on very steep hills, I can't prevent the car from rolling back.

Did you replace the proportioning valve by the way?
